@Francita:

Edited- read it anyways.

Sucks for the folks in the rich neighborhoods & expensive houses who fought to have that HS built FOR their kids because they wanted a nice new school zoned with other rich kids. Forgot about the rough neighborhoods that back up to theirs. It really is unfortunate though. Most definitely out of hand. 4951

Apparently Summer Creek High in Humble ISD has a fighting issue. Is that normal for high schools these days? I went to a small school of less than 1000 kids. My boys didn't go to KHS. I put them in Quest. 4951

@Francita:

I went to HHS & graduated the last year before AHS was built/ open. My senior graduating class had 1500+ kids, the largest in the school's history. I recall a riot as well as my friend getting her throat slit in the cafeteria with a box cutter. My child will NEVER go to HHS. High School's these days are scary. 4951

@PedroDePacas:   Same here, but it was always boys.  Now, girls get into fights as well.  We had a few girls pulling hair but no punches thrown.

@PedroDePacas:  Same for most of us over 30.  But then, "back in the day" there weren't parents screaming "don't touch my baby angel or I'll sue."  They don't bother to discipline their kids, let them run wild, yet they tie the hands of the schools and the district, so the kids get zero discipline unless it is in the criminal justice system.

If we held these lawsuit-happy parents personally responsible, their tunes might change.  Until then, this is the result.  The only thing the schools can do is adopt a zero tolerance policy and kick those kids out.  4951

Fights are nothing. In a local area school, a 260 lbs senior followed a 135 lbs freshman into the restroom and beat the ever-living crap out of the kid. The senior received 3-days of ISS (Wed-Fri) and still played in the game on Friday.

What a great lesson the football coach and school taught that kid.

Ridiculous!

I had fighting in my small school but it was not often, 5 or so a year. Not that many in a day. But then everyone would be friends. I guess it was too small of a town. 4951

@donnatella: It bothers the heck outta me to see parents now a days, especially those my age, letting their kids do whatever they want, letting them talk back to their parents even at an early toddler age!... I'm not afraid to discipline my child cuz am NOT going to let my child be brought up as a brat and make life more difficult for him when he becomes an adult.I have to admit it's nice when people complement me on my lil man who's five years old being well-mannered.

@lilmama09:  If my child is in someone elses custody, whether school, sleep over, youth trip, they have my blessing to do whatever is necessary to keep him in line.  He knows that, and knows when he gets home the issue will not be ignored.  I'm not naive enough to think my child is an angel.  Kids are kids and do stupid things from time to time. They learn by error and discipline and I refuse to raise a criminal.  4951

@donnatella: The same rules applies to my lil one. I know my kid is for sure not an saint by any means but luckily, he hates to be in trouble so I have yet to get a bad report on him, but when I do it will not a good day for him.

@Heathur:  I think the world of you, but I have to strongly disagree with this.  Those homeowners did not fight to have an exclusive school built to keep everyone out.  It was built due to population growth and overcrowding in the schools.  There are a lot of hard-working good people in SW and Fall Creek, and the various neighborhoods in between.  Some are rich, but the majority just bust their **** to make the best life possible for their families.  If there is someone over there you dislike, that's fine, but it's unfair to lump everyone all together as having that belief.  4951

@donnatella:
Dang, re-reading my original post, I absolutely see where it came out as bashing on my end. Totally wasn't meant that way though. I'm just down WLHP from Summerwood & have 3 good friends & a co-worker who live in Summerwood. All gorgeous homes, & all work their ***es off for what they have. I myself would live there if it were in my budget. I've got one friend in Fall Creek & it's a gorgeous home, I just personally think that the location of such a beautiful neighborhood is ruined by the terrible surrounding area. (Autobahn, that Walmart is scary, etc.) I guess it was just more of that was the talk when the HS was being built. Passing off as overpopulation when the parents wanted their kids in a new school, because that was what was being said. I don't blame them if it were the case, they pay some damn high taxes & I don't blame a parent for wanting the best for their child, it just seems strange that there are sooo many fights in a school where a good percentage of the students are from wealthier neighborhoods which usually comes with a stereotype/ stigma of well-behaved kids. The article would not have surprised me if the school at hand was Humble High, but Summercreek does. And maybe that's wrong of me to think to, but in no way was I originally intending to bash those neighborhoods. 4951
