We get office suite for $9 through my dh work but I have used OpenOffice before. Never libre 4951

@BooBear: Sort of the same thing.  LibreOffice was a sub-branch (along with ApacheOffice) under OpenOffice when Sun owned it.  Part of it was proprietary source code, part of it was open-source...read "the code is not proprietary so anyone can make adjustments".  When Oracle bought Sun they rebranded just the proprietary code "OpenOffice" and shut down the project.  Some of the developers took LibreOffice and continue to keep it fresh to this day.  It's currently the most popular office suite for Linux users and those Windows users who don't like paying ransom to Microsoft.

Libra office is pretty good, and does 99.9% of what people need, to include read and write MS file formats. I use it on my linux laptop. I do have office on my desktop, but got it through work for $40, so hard to pass up. 4951

This is great - I never knew there were programs other than Microsoft. That said, like others shared, I get the $10 MS Office Suite through my work. 4951
