I stopped in today and asked if they sell prime rib, and they do. Bone-in or out, it's $17.99/lb.

They are taking Christmas orders now. You have to order in person, as it requires a $25 deposit. Meat will come in around the 19th/20th for pick-up anytime after that. 4951

@lola: For us, 4 adults and 2 young kids (asked for two nights worth), he suggested 5 pounds. 4951

@ctl74:

You are going to pay almost $100 for meat that is meant to be served practically raw???

@ctl74 Talk with the butchers @HEB & Kroger, I've always bought from the regular stores & never had a bad one.  They always carry it during the holidays. I would place an order but no deposit. I don't think I paid anywhere close to $17.99 but meat just keeps getting more expensive. 4951

@thegoodwife: Hey thanks for the tip! I called my Mom (the prime rib chef) to see what she thought, as she typically gets her meat from Costco. She thought it seemed high too and told me to check with Kroger, as she's had friends who have done well with their meat there (back in SC). I think my Saturday errands this week will consist meat comparison shopping!

She also thought she remembered paying around $9 or $10/lb typically. 4951

I think I paid around $10 last year.  I may check out costco.  They are usually a bit more but the meat is supposed to be really good.  I don't usually buy fresh meat there so we  will see. 4951

All the meat has gone up so much. It is no where close to where it used to be. 4951
