Anybody have any experience with these things? I saw a few on eBay and thought they might be handy to have. But I'm concerned about how safe they might be. 4951

I researched them a while back - decided against them for the safety concerns, of which there were many.  I found some thick furry covered crate pads that react to the dog's body heat and get warm- somewhere on line.They have a thermal core of some kind A little  pricey but they worked, until the big little boy decided it would be fun to tear into them.  If you don't have a chewer/dissecter, they do a pretty good job. 4951

My boy has his toys and doesn't chew on his bedding. He's way past that phase. He's a 6 year old chow. 4951

I wish I could remember where I got the pads.  They really did get warm, and were very well made.  I put them on top of the memory foam dog beds. 4951

It would seem a little unsafe to have anything plugged in with a pet like that.  Maybe just let them use their fur to stay warm?  Or are they outside full-time?.     4951

I put a hot water bottle in my small inside dogs bed. She loves it. But still prefers to sit on me while I have hot flashes from her body heat. 4951

My cat recently was diagnosed with renal failure. She is stable with the food from the vet. She is always cold so I went to petco and bought a heating pad for 29.00. It stated would not get hot. Instead it became very hot took it back and called the vet. She said the safest way is to fill a sock with rice and heat it until warm with micro wave will stay that way a few hours. I do that and she loves it. I spoil her and even put her towel in dryer first. Won't stay warm all night but won't hurt them either 4951

@buffaloglenn:

Cat used to be in the house full time but has made the garage her home. Now we're lucky to be graced by her precence. Dog lives outside most of the time but bangs on the door when he's had enough. 4951

My dogs have a big old comfortable comforter off a king sized bed they use to burrow in and stay warm. As cold as it gets around here (which is minor) they remain both outside, and toasty. The comforter we wash regularly as I do the dogs so they remain clean, flea free, and well taken care of. Oh hell who am I kidding, they are friggin spoiled ROTTEN. 4951

Thermokitty is the name of the one I bought. I either bought it on Amazon or ebay. It does not get hot. It gets warm. I bought it when it was so cold last winter and the cat would hardly budge from it. I left it on all winter on the front porch.  4951

Amazon sells "self warming" pads and beds that require no electricity.  My feral cats love the pads 4951
