What brand of dog food do you use?  Having trouble finding the right one for mine.  She has been having itchy skin/rashes and developed a double ear infection since we switched to a different brand.  We switched to a diet brand in hopes of shedding a little weight off her.Thanks 4951

blue buffalo is what we use for our malamute that is allergic to all grains.  Look for anything that doesn't contain any grains what so ever, including rice.  And for the shedding good luck, I haven't found a good treatment for that yet. 4951

Our poor golden has frequent ear infections and skin issues - it would be good to hear recommendations. 4951

Skin issues is usually a food allergy, mainly to grains. I feed the raw meaty bones diet. My 9 year old golden was always chewing her paws and had ear infections regularly. She had no energy and never played. That was when we were feeding traditional dog food. If you look up the raw meaty bones diet there is a lot of things you will learn about store bought dog food you probably dont want to know. I thought at 1st it would be hard to feed and expensive and messy. It was actually very easy. I feed mine 1 cup of sojo's base mix with a filet of some type of fish 1 day a week, a chicken quarter 3 days a week with 1/2 cup sojo's, a turkey neck once a  week, chicken livers and gizzards with a cup of sojo's once a week and they are suppose to fast 1 day a week but I cant do that so they get 1/2 a bag of frozen vegetables that day. My goldens are also very lazy so you might choose to feed more. You can also talk to pampered paws in kingwood about it and they are very informative. I started with honest kitchen dog food and slowly worked my way to full raw. their breath is better, less shedding, no skin or ear issues, more active, and they just seem healthier over all. 4951

Agree with Nicole - most of the store brands aren't so great.  And the dog needs more of it because there are so many non-nutritional fillers, so really not that much less expensive. There is a website called DogFoodAdvisor that is good for general information on lots of different brands. The ladies at Pampered Paws- especially Jamie - can give you valuable information about foods, allergies, etc.  They can help you make the best choice for your budget. 4951

We had a Lab ( Brian - RIP) who was allergic to EVERYTHING. We tried many dog foods and ended up on Natural Balance- Duck and Potato. Even then in the Spring he still broke out in a skin rash and had to go on steroids and antihistamines for 6 weeks. You've got to find a food with no or little grain 4951

I have a lab, and he has terrible allergies.  I give him Benadryl.  The doc said I can give him up to 4 over the counter ones.  But 2 usually work fine for him.  When my allergies get bad, his usually are too.  He starts to scratch at this nose, and lick his paws.  I give him a couple and he stops all that.I feed him Iams.  I get the one for older dogs.  He has been fed this since we got him.  Iams usually makes the dogs poop solid.  That is a huge deal when you have a 130 pound dog.  He never has an upset stomach and his allergies are fine with Iams and Benadryl.I bathe him in a Tea Tree Oil Shampoo, and I use the conditioner on him too.  This is a natural flea repellent and it really stops the itching.  Brushing him 2 times a week with The Furminator is also a HUGE deal.  Way less shedding, less than 1/2 of what he use to shed before we started brushing him.  The Furminator is a like magicEmoticon

@Fallon:
Im going to bring ella over and use the furminator. Always wondered how it would work on her
