My family and I are moving there next spring/summer. We are seriously thinking of Kingwood. Is everybody welcoming, or is another family the last thing you want to see? LOL  I almost wouldn't blame you! But we are hoping to make lots of friends like we have here in Denver, Colorado. Any advice on anything? Are the schools good? I have an 11-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl.  Any opinions would be appreciated! 4951

Hi Thumper. What is bringing you to Houston? I've been living in Kingwood going on 4 years, and, over all, I'm pretty happy here! I don't have children, so I can't comment on the schools. 4951

My name is actually Laurie; not sure why I didn't use my name. I guess I thought it would be taken. My husband got a great job offer that he/we cannot pass up. We don't have other family here in Colorado, and although it will be tough leaving friends, we are looking at it as an adventure. I visited last weekend and it was raining, and now it appears it's raining this weekend also! A lot! Is that the norm or just the season? There will be some sunshine, won't there? 4951

you would love it here, great people for the most part, schools are some of the top in the state.  Kingwood park high just got voted #7 I believe in Texas.   Here in Texas we dont have seasons so to speak, we have summer and winter!  LOL  But then again if you dont like the weather just wait 5 minutes it will change.  Winters are usually wet, come january and feb are the coldest were we migth see flurries or some light snow.  Its a semi tropical area.We have villages here not subdivisions, so which one are ya'll looking into moving to? We then can help you with what schools.  Each village has its own elementary and we have 3 middle schools, 2 high schools. 4951

@Thumper100: It's been a strange year for rain.  Up until this year we could go a very long time without any at all.  I believe we were in a drought for several years. So no, this amount of rain is not normal.

Get ready for the mosquitos and bad crime and drunk drivers. Other than that it's great. Kingwood is a nice place to live. The trees are beautiful and the schools are great. 4951

I like the sound of a village better than a subdivision! It sounds homier. I don't know yet which village. We can't seriously look for a house until about March, and then I guess I will know what village. I just know I'm seeing an awful lot of good ones on har.com.  It's killing me because I find one I like, knowing it will be gone by the time we get one. So I will get back to you on that! : ) 4951

I can agree in the Mosquitos and drunk drivers but in KW proper the crime has gone up in the 15+ years I have lived here but it is not bad. Going into Houston it is not great, you just have to be aware of your surroundings and be diligent about locking doors and keeping your garage closed. Some of the older villages are worse than others. I work downtown and love coming home to the trees. 4951

@Thumper100:  Welcome to Kingwood (In the near future).  We moved here in 1993 from near New Orleans and raised our two kids here.  Kingwood is a great place to live but it's not perfect.... what place is?  Crime exists but is not as bad as some think/believe. I think some people have unrealistic expectations of NO crime and that doesn't exist.  Many residents are transients and move in/out as their jobs require.  Most neighbors tend to mind their own business, but if you make an effort to meet them, you'll find yourself welcomed.  Having kids will also give you plenty of opportunities to meet other parents. Our summers can be pretty brutal (temp + humidity), but our winters are mild.  Southeast Texas is all flat-land, but we are within 2 hours of the gulf.  Houston is mostly piney woods and has prairie just to the west.  About 4 hours to the northwest is a beautiful area called the Hill Country.Good luck to you and your family in the move!
