So, my lemons are ripening, when should I pick them? I got it from Warren's beginning of this year. 4951

@Murf, you will know when they are ready by their feel.  They will get softer than they are now, but not mushy soft.  And they will be bright yellow.  It is rare to have any ripe enough to pick before mid Dec.  Generally it is the early to middle of January.I have picked them earlier, because of weather in Dec and early Jan.  but some were not ripe. And of all fruit, lemons do not ripen up after picking them.  If you pick them unripe, they never taste like they should.  I have done this many times, so this part I got down patEmoticonIf we get a deep freeze, we are going to be in trouble.  Unless it is after January. And I ain't talking about 30 degrees.  If we get 27 things can be dicey.  27 for more than an hour, is bad.   32 all day followed by 27 at night, Katie bar the door, the lemons will not be savable. My tree is about 13 feet tall.  So covering it is a nightmare.  If yours is in a pot, and you can bring it inside do that if we get another night lower than 32.  Otherwise, a frost/ light freeze is good for the lemons.  It is suppose to make the sweeter.  I got 400+ last year off my tree last year.  And they were huge, ask @mpjp0907 or @Retired_Engineer.  You can't hold 2 in one hand.  I get anxious and want them picked by the end of Dec.  To prevent this, I take the least ripe one I can find, and cut it open.  If they still taste green, you know you have to leave them on the tree a bit longer.  And I can't really describe a green taste, you will just know it when you taste of the lemonEmoticon

@Fallon: A neighbor of mine has a small (possibly clementine?) tree in their front yard absolutely loaded down with fruit. It takes every ounce of self-control to not pick them. Something about picking fruit, Idkk.
Are your lemons organic, and do you sell them? 4951

Aww ty Fallon, I'll take a pic ,  mine are all yellow, for the most part I think. Don't have enough to 'waste ' one seeing if they are ripe.     Only have a couple dozen I think Emoticon and yeah, it's in a pot, covered it a few nights ago. 4951

Haha! Thanks! Actually the only reason I got turned on to organic stuff is because I get a severe allergic reaction when I eat ANY fresh fruit or veg with chemicals/pesticides on the skin. My lips give Angelina Jolie a run for her money when I eat non-organic. But, you are correct...I have had the same reaction with one or two 'organic' foods I've purchased. Whether they were stored with non-organic produce, or were simply advertising falsely, I don't know.I have heard once or twice that things with thick skins - bananas, etc. - are fine because the chemicals only go so far into the fruit anyway. Who knows? Anyway, I'll probably die from something other than a food-related illness so I don't sweat it. 4951
