Does that ever work without someone getting hurt?I'm obviously referring to flight benefits, retail employee discounts and free sports tickets from work.  4951

It never ends well. Somebody always gets the short end of the stick and gets hurt. I mean, if your friend always has sports tickets and all you have to offer is 10% off some store merchandise that nobody really shops at, eventually it's gonna go bad. 4951

Yeah, Sugar Daddy has a suite for all Texans home games and Sugar Baby only has a pair of nose-bleed seats to the Astros. It might be great for a while, but then fizzles and Sugar Baby gets kicked to the curb. Friends = Cool, but leave the benefits alone, unless you BOTH are looking for something lasting. 4951

If you're trading benefits enough, I find it comes out evenly. One person may always be ahead, but hopefully the person on the receiving end always changes. I would have to spend a lot of time with someone to trust their generous side before getting into a spoken or unspoken relationship like that. However, if I really care about someone and I do something nice for them (whether it is just a perk I pass along, or it takes my time and resources) it always feels good to pass a blessing on. 4951

@Elle10: I would think that always being on the receiving end would get uncomfortable. 4951

Any type of relationship needs balance.  One-sided never works well.  4951

Thats the thing, you have to have a friend thats benefits are equitable to what you have to offer. Otherwise it will never work and if one friend loses those benefits, the other cant cover both. You also run the risk of becoming attached to those benefits and that makes it harder to give up even though you really arent entitled to the benefits to begin with.

Its really best to not share to begin with. 4951

@donnatella: I've found that there never is true balance b/w two people.
I'm in debt to some friends and others are in debt to me.  I'm not sure that balance b/w two people is necessary, but perhaps an overall karmic balance is. 4951

@donnatella: True. I feel like it's difficult to quantify some trades though. Are we talking about face value of said perk? Or would you decide what something is worth to you beforehand and make an offer of trade? I don't think I would ever give or accept something without knowing what I was getting in return. That said, no one needs to give up something they actually use or want!

@Odin:  It's never completely balanced, but going for close is the goal.  I pick up the tab for drinks tonight, you buy lunch next week, etc. I guess what really counts is the effort to balance and one is not just sitting back and accepting goodies without stepping up to at least make the effort to reciprocate.  4951

@cgm10sne1: Who has the power?  The one getting it or the one giving it?
