Well we found out today that the new owners are forcing people to move out by Jan 31!! My lease isn't up til March. Legally they can do this as long as they give u 60 days notice. If u choose to end ur lease Dec 31st, u don't have to pay Dec rent. If u leave in Jan, u don't pay Jan rent. Guess were moving sooner than expected. Hope we find one soon, or else we will be living in our car Emoticon 4951

Best of luck to you. I wonder what the people who might not have a car and seem to walk to get their groceries, job, etc will do. 4951

I have no idea. My husband & I definitely have a little advantage. I think they should give us free rent Dec & Jan for all this. It will be the holiday & cold. Not good for elderly who have lived here 20+ years. 4951

I know legally they have to give 60 days notices but what are the legal rights as far as what they have to help with. Not paying for a month is not gonna help anyone! 4951

You should take the free rent as a gift and stop complaining. You're lucky the new owner was gracious enough to offer that....  lord knows they don't have to. 4951

Why does everyone have to move? My son looked at those apartments just last month. I've worked in the apartment industry. Normally new owners will renovate as people move out. They force that by jacking up the rent so you can't afford it. I've never heard of forcing to move everyone out at once. But I haven't been in that industry for 25 years so maybe things changed..... 4951

I understood the original plan was to be vacated by Nov 30 so a lot of people are getting 2 extra months.  I know a lot of people have already moved out.  4951

@Francita: The complex is being demolished and replaced with a shopping center.

Since they are tearing down the place are they going to give you back your security deposit in full?  It's not like they will need it to repair any thing

There are tons of rumors about what's being built so who knows.  I've heard HEB+, Central Market, World Market, etc.   I've heard that if HEB moves, Alspaughs will take over the current HEB.  Something about a furniture store as well a more upscale clothing stores. Who knows.  I guess all we can do is wait for the official release of info. 4951
