My DH has started sneezing and having trouble breathing when he comes home or around lots of perfume.
He thinks he has developed an allergy to dog fur! We have senior dogs that we love and there is know way we can re home them. What are ways I can reduce the allergens? He is going to make an appointment with a doctor too.
We changed the air filters and replaced them with the Filtrete ones for pet fur and vacuuming often helps. 4951

DH saw an allergist today. And my DH tested positive for only one allergen-Dog Hair!! So the dr. Recommended getting rid off all rugs and carpet, make sure we change the air filters monthly, vacuum regularly, plus he will take two doses of OTC allergy meds, saline nasal flushes and some immediate relief with a steroid spray.
He said even when the dogs pass away it takes about 6 months to get all the dog hair out of a house. He said shaving the dog doesn't help and there is no such thing a hypoallergenic dog. So when our dogs pass no more dogs for us.Emoticon Emoticon Emoticon Which sucks, I really like have two big dogs at night when my DH isn't home. 4951

Two allergy pills a day seems like a lot. I'd start with one and see how that works. My son has extensive allergies, so we have never had much carpet in the house. This house doesn't have any at all. Simple 8 used to have a product to bathe animals in that supposedly cut down on dander. Good luckEmoticon 4951

I don't know if he would be at all interested in something more...natural. But, I use a blend of organic essential oils for my allergies and they work miracles. Lavender, peppermint, and lemon is my elixir of choice - lavender as an anti-inflammatory, peppermint to open up nasal/sinus cavities, and lemon to aide in any toxic reactions. I take them orally (2 drops each) when I start to get sneezey, but make sure you get a safe, organic brand with no additives. I have seasonal allergies, and cat allergies, plus cigarette smoke bothers me (bleh). Works for all of them. 4951

@Elle10:
How do you take the drops? By themselves or in a drink?

@foxymama: Drop them directly under your tongue or back of throat. Do not ever put the oils in plastic or styrofoam, as the extreme anti-oxidants will immediately start to erode and melt them. You can add them to dissolvable vegetable capsules or to a smoothie or juice in a glass (:
