A Nutso woman in Texas City had four large dogs that broke through a fence and killed a neighbor's 10 year old beagle.  Nutso attempted to pull her dogs away from the poor beagle and was bitten and scratched repeatedly by her own dogs. Nutso is now SUING the beagle's owner for not properly securing THEIR beagle to the tune of $1million.The beagle's owners had been advised to sue Nutso, but didn't feel it would bring back their beagle and Nutso's dogs had been declared "dangerous".I hope the beagles owners file a counter-suit against Nutso and take her house!http://www.galvestondailynews.com/free/article_73eac108-6c8f-11e4-b3b0-f36b13c54b1b.html 4951

This case will never make it to trial.  Any fool can sue anyone for any reason.  It will likely be tossed on the merits, sent to court-ordered mediation or settled prior to trial as a nuisance claim by the insurance company.    4951

Sometimes I think people should be beaten with a stick, even in civil court cases. 4951

That sounds like something that happened to us! Neighbors dogs (who you can tell have been trained for fighting) tore through their fence (we had our own fence as well
But the neighbors illegally took it down) and attacked my dogs. This happened 4 different times. Killed two of my pups and ripped the ear completely off another (he's fine now.) the dog went after my stepdad and a cop (who almost shot the dog) but they were able to scare the dog back into it's own yard. During the fight, the dog got a scratch on it's nose. Neighbors filed charges on a friend who was with them for animal abuse because he was the one that smacked the dog to get him to let go and go away. Needless to say, they were practically laughed out of court. Sad thing is, our friend had to spend a week in jail because of it. My mom was building her own court case against them, but I'm not sure what ever happened to it. Long story short, people are idiots. 4951

the neighbor should countersue for the loss of their dog and the emotional distress of living next door to an idgit. if it ever does make it to trial, they can ask the judge to award them  for their attorney fees from the idgit as well. 4951

@donnatella: The insurance company shouldn't even settle. 4951

@ctl74: Sometimes they do just to make it go away. Not worth the expense to ready it for trial. 4951

@donnatella:  That's why the beagle's owner should counter-sue!  They were being good neighbors and didn't plan to sue Nutso.  It wouldn't bring their beagle back and, as a result of the incident, the police listed Nutso's dogs as "dangerous" which meant she had to make modifications to insure that they were contained.  The beagle's owners have a much stronger case, so they should counter-sue Nutso... if for no other reason than to make sure she doesn't profit from the incident.

@fcabanski: The 4 big dogs broke the bottom sections of two adjacent boards of a wooden fence.
