I asked dh if I could use his table saw.  He said, no, can't mess up his tools.  Now he is trying to cut the beast.  Maybe a skill saw would work.

My Father had a saw he would use to cut the turnips at thanksgiving. Just a manual type saw. 4951

@BooBear: I've never had rutabega. all I know is they are tart. Are they hard like butternut squash & turnips or are they thorny.

Yes and they are coated with a wax stuff. I just boil the whole thing now and peel when they are soft. 4951

@Fallon I had a friend who would put butter & brown sugar and bake it. It was good, but  I believe yours is a bit healthier. I don't think I ever bought a butternut squash.
I'm not a fan of squash.  I had a recipe recently that called for zucchini & I used broccoli instead.  4951

Yes, they are a type of turnip. You make them like mashed potatoes but you have to add some sugar so they are not bitter. 4951

Sometimes HEB has them already cubed in a container... If you can find them that way, I think it's worth it even though it probably costs a little more... JMO.  It always looks so easy when Ina Garten does it on tv. She has some sort of Y-shaped peeler. For cutting, I guess her knives are super sharp. I'd probably cut off an appendage!!! 4951
