I think if he is going to pardon his own son of a weed conviction, he should pardon everyone in the entire state who has ever gotten a weed conviction. 4951

When I lived in NM, I knew a guy who got pardoned by the governor,, because he was his cousin. The guy was on death row, for hunting down and killing 2 people. Not just killing,,, but actually waiting for them and hunting them down.the guy was also in the national guard.... clean record.  4951

Luke 16He also said to His disciples: “There was a certain rich man who had a steward, and an accusation was brought to him that this man was wasting his goods. 2 So
he called him and said to him, ‘What is this I hear about you? Give an
account of your stewardship, for you can no longer be steward.’ 3 “Then
the steward said within himself, ‘What shall I do? For my master is
taking the stewardship away from me. I cannot dig; I am ashamed to beg. 4 I have resolved what to do, that when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.’ 5 “So he called every one of his master’s debtors to him, and said to the first, ‘How much do you owe my master?’ 6 And he said, ‘A hundred measures[a] of oil.’ So he said to him, ‘Take your bill, and sit down quickly and write fifty.’ 7 Then he said to another, ‘And how much do you owe?’ So he said, ‘A hundred measures[b] of wheat.’ And he said to him, ‘Take your bill, and write eighty.’ 8 So
the master commended the unjust steward because he had dealt shrewdly.
For the sons of this world are more shrewd in their generation than the
sons of light. 9 “And I say to you, make friends for yourselves by unrighteous mammon, that when you fail,[c] they may receive you into an everlasting home. 10 He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much. 11 Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? 12 And if you have not been faithful in what is another man’s, who will give you what is your own? 13 “No
servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love
the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other.
You cannot serve God and mammon.” 4951

Presidents and governors always do this just before they leave office,

I just wonder if they have enough pardons printed up for when Obama leaves office, somehow I see a whole bunch of pardons being signed... 4951

The Arkansas Parole Board recommended the pardon and he fits the profile.  He is a non violent offender who had completed all terms of his sentence and shown that he had straightened his life out.  There were no objections from law enforcement.  Over 700 others have been pardoned.  This was worth a second look, but really it's a non issue. 4951

A rich guy accused his steward of mis-managing funds.  The steward knew he was about to get fired.  He knew he needed favor with other people, who owed his current (soon to be former employer) money, because he would need a new job.  So he told each of the debtors he would change the records to show some smaller amount they owed, and they could pay that smaller amount. When the employer found out about the steward's actions the employer commended the steward for his shrewdness.  The lowering of debts made the employer look generous, it made the people who owed look honest for repaying their debts, and it set the steward up for a new job with one of the people he helped.  Everyone was a winner.Jesus told the parable to point out that people have to use the ways of the world to accomplish things in the world.  People know their own professions, their own circles, their own thing better than some pure acting person who might condemn "shady" dealings. 4951

@Mccrj:  Very true.  Most wait until they are lame ducks, but all Presidents have been busy giving pardons (which includes commuted or rescinded sentences). Here are just the last 22 PresidentsPresident (term of office)Number of PardonsGrover Cleveland (1885 to 1889, 1893 to 1897)1,107Benjamin Harrison (1889 to 1893)613William McKinley (1897 to 1901)918Theodore Roosevelt (1901 to 1909)981William H. Taft (1909 to 1913)758Woodrow Wilson (1913 to 1921)2,480Warren Harding (1921 to 1923)800Calvin Coolidge (1923 to 1929)1,545Herbert Hoover (1929 to 1933)1,385Franklin D. Roosevelt (1933 to 1945)3,687Harry Truman (1945 to 1953)2,044Dwight D. Eisenhower (1953 to 1961)1,157John F. Kennedy (1961 to 1963)575Lyndon B. Bush (1989 to 1993)77Bill Clinton (1993 to 2001)456George W. Bush (2001 to 2009)176 Barack Obama (2009 to 2013) 23 www.infoplease.com/u s/government/preside ntial-pardons-1789-p resent.html
I fully expect Obama's number to grow over the next two years of his lame duck term.  FDR has the record for most pardons by any President (as well as the most years served).   It's interesting to see that JFK signed 575 pardons over almost three years in office. He was killed during his first term and he surely would have won a second term.  I am sure Rick Perry will bulk up his presidential campaign cashbox with a slew of "purchased/bribed" pardons before he leaves offfice.  It was rumored that Governor Edwin Edwards had a menu for Pardons listed by crime and price/bribe while he was in office. 4951

One of the first pardons Jimmy Carter did was for his brother Billy.  He was arrested for possession of cocaine.   At least Billy's exploits made it an interesting presidency! 4951
