The other night my husband and I took our kids to have dinner there. Since we have two younger kids, we all went to the counter to pick up our food once it was ready to not leave them at the table alone. With me not having pockets and my husband had already started toward the counter, I decided to leave my cell phone at the table (we were at a booth that was against a wall and I placed it as far away from the aisle as possible out of reach) and before I made it completely to the table, I noticed my phone was GONE. I immediately asked my husband to start calling it and could faintly hear it ringing. He went to the counter where the sound was coming from and saw an employee pull it out from under a box of napkins trying to silence the ringing. When my husband saw her and told her, "that's my wife's phone", she quickly started rambling that it was "turned in". We finished our dinner and before leaving, I requested to speak to the manager and come to find out, she was the one who was in possession of my phone. Again, she frantically started coming up with excuses and insisted that she knows her employees and there is no one who would steal, that an honest person turned it in, and they placed it on top of the counter waiting for someone to claim it (which is completely different than what my husband witnessed). I then asked, if someone found it and turned it in (possibly thinking we accidently left it behind) why would they pick up a phone off the table, but left a purse sitting there? Her rebuttal was they find diamonds and jewelry there all the time and they wouldn't waste their time stealing a phone. I was floored that was her response to the allegations....If the MANAGER isn't willing to apologize for an incident happening, or at least stating she would look into the matter, she obviously is very much aware of what is going on there. I do take responsibility for leaving it on the table, but just to warn others, never let anything out of your sight there. It very much seemed like this is a daily occurrence and at least 3 employees who put their two cents into the conversation, are apart of theft that happens there as well. 4951

I thought it to be a franchise, but when I asked during the conversation, the manager kept insisting it was corporate owned and I would get nowhere. I'm sure to deter me from reporting it, but I have already reached out to the Kingwood Fuddruckers FB page and have been "googling it" to find out who the franchise owner is and how to inform him of what is taking place. Glad to know he is involved in the store and would take it serious. Thanks for the post. 4951

I love Fuddruckers.  I was a bit disappointed the last two times I went there.  They had ran out of Dr.Pepper in the machine and when someone told them that the DP was out the girl acted as if it is just something that happens and it can't be fixed. Then the employee turned around and started conversing with another employee as if it wasn't their job to fix it.  So somebody mentioned it to the manager and the manager said something along the lines of "We are to busy to deal with these kinds of things. You'll just have to drink something else."  I have met the owner while he was working at the counter before.  He does seem to be someone that enjoys his franchise and I don't think he would be passive about the situations that are occurring while he is not there.  I had intended to contact  him but didn't have the time.  It's difficult to trust your investment to be put in someone else's hands but obviously it has to be done sometimes.   4951

@GoldenGirl: I am very glad I got it back as well, the hubby would not have gone for the idea of having to replace it again (forgot it on top of the car while putting kids in the car and it fell off at 59 and Northpark, totally destroyed), lol. I think I was more upset because I know better and hesitated about leaving it behind. Should have listened to my gut.And I very much agree that it is hard finding trustworthy people to run your establishment. An owner can't be there every hour the doors are open. It is just very disappointing because we are frequent customers there, but if being too busy to help customers, much less stealing from them, it doesn't make us want to go back there anytime soon.

The ultimate fault is with you for leaving the phone unattended at a table. 4951

@fcabanski:

I find this statement annoying... She accepted responsibility for leaving the phone on the table. There's really no excuse for someone taking something that doesn't belong to them. Why have we started blaming victims? The person stealing ALSO made a bad choice. That sounds more like the "ultimate fault" to me. 4951

I left my entire purse at a local restaurant not too long ago. It was either on the floor or hanging on my chair. I called when I realized I didn't have it, and they said no one had turned it in and didn't act like they cared at all. I lost my wallet, credit cards, keys, etc etc etcHOWEVER, I have not blamed the restaurant. I do not know if an employee found it and kept it or if a customer took it after we left, but overall, it was my fault for leaving it, not theirs. To this day, even though everyone asks, I have not told anyone where it occurred because I didn't want to blame them for something that was ultimately my mistake.You should be glad you got your phone back. 4951

I left my purse in a Wendy's in Austin and didn't realize it until I got home late. Had to figure out where we were and call. They said they were just looking in my wallet for contact info. They locked it in the safe until I got there the next day. Nothing missing!! Totally my fault, but I'm thankful for honest people. Swiping your phone while you stepped away from your table was a shi##y thing to do. 4951
