Warren's attorneys, Wendy Brooks Crew, Alyson Hood Rains and Cameron Hogan, did not immediately respond to messages seeking comment.

@Stealth83: They will respond when they get back from the Bahamas, where they are currently celebrating the cash out from the case!

Lawyers don't work for free, as I assume no one else does either. That case likely took a long time, start to finish and incurred all kinds of expenses. That portion is not just billing of fees. 4951

People need to stop being greedy and work **** out. I am sure the policy department had offered him a settlement at some point and he just wanted more. Same thing with divorces. Usually the lawyers are left with the most out of it, simply because one of the parties is acting out of spite. A friend's divorce took over a year. At the end his ex got pretty much what he had offered from the beginning but the community property was down by more than 120 grand. I guess they helped the economy!I also remember the case of the Barry Bonds HR ball, which two fans claimed. At the end a judge ruled they should sell the ball and split the money, which I would have done from day one, no matter how right I thought I was. The ball sold for over $400k. One of the guys (not the one that caught the ball originally) got to keep most of his share because he worked out a deal with his lawyers based on percentage but the other idiot now owes his lawyers money because they charged him more than his share. He went from a possible $200k windfall to owing money he doesn't have. The reason: greed. I agree lawyers charge for their services, which they should. I have no complaints about that. They go to school for a long time and (most) earn their money and as long as they don't come up with hidden charges and are clear from the start about how much they charge, it's up to the client to decide if they use them or not. My point is that lawsuits lead to one thing and one thing only: richer lawyers. Neither party wins.  4951

(Reuters) - An Alabama man who sued over being hit and kicked by police after leading them on a high-speed chase will get $1,000 in a settlement with the city of Birmingham, while his attorneys will take in $459,000, officials said Wednesday.
The incident gained public attention with the release of a 2008 video of police officers punching and kicking Anthony Warren as he lay on the ground after leading them on a roughly 20-minute high-speed chase.
Warren is serving a 20-year sentence for attempted murder stemming from his running over a police officer during the chase, in which he also hit a school bus and a patrol car before crashing and being ejected from his vehicle.
Under the terms of the settlement of Warren's 2009 federal suit, in which he accused five Birmingham police officers of excessive force, his attorneys will receive $100,000 for expenses and $359,000 in fees, said Michael Choy, an attorney representing the officers on behalf of the city.
The agreement was reached last month and approved on Tuesday by the Birmingham City Council.
The city settled to avoid further litigation and the risk of a higher payout, Choy said.
Warren's attorneys, Wendy Brooks Crew, Alyson Hood Rains and Cameron Hogan, did not immediately respond to messages seeking comment.

@Stealth83: The police dept & school should sue him for excessive force when he ran over a cop and slammed into a school bus. he's lucky all he got was knocked around. The law should be changed so that you lose your right not to have your *** beat when you lead cops on a high-speed chase.

Its getting to the point that police officers are now suing people for attacking them. People think they can jus sue, but the tables are now turning. You file a false claim against an individual, police or not,, you can be sued. 4951
