$50 for each hour.I like Mathnasium's concept of a monthly fee for unlimited study time.  Of course, as a private tutor I can't offer that type of pricing.I used to tutor that style when I was in college.  The college paid me.  I had a classroom at the downtown campus.  Students came there to study and get assistance with their work.  I was supposedly a math tutor, but students asked for help with other subjects. One student needed help changing a flat tire on her car,Tutoring is half the subject material and half teaching people how to take notes, study, and find information.Step 1 for many of today's kiddos is turn off the video games. 4951

My friend works there. I have no idea how pricing goes, but he always has stories about a child's success. You do get those kids every so often, though, who'd much rather fail than actually attempt to put all the effort into passing. The success rate really depends on how much the kids are willing to put into it and actually study outside of tutoring. 4951

I heard they "changed" how they do math now in 3rd grade. True? 4951

I tutored a student a few years ago who went through third grade math in Spanish.  Some genius decided that if they taught math class in Spanish, the kids would learn math and Spanish at the same time.I wonder why it didn't work. 4951

I went and checked it out. Month to month, no contract. Once per week for one hour $200. Twice a week , each a one hour session $250 for the month. Unlimited times $300 a month. Not sure if we are going to try it.   4951

They do... do math differently. "Investigations" is what HISD uses or was using up until this year. Kids are to discover math lol. If you can get your teacher and tutor to communicate that'd work best! Private tutor sounds like a better deal to me.  4951

If you are looking for an individual tutor, check wyzant.com and put in your subject and zip code. My son is on there - he has tutored 300 + hours. I'd recommend him but he lives in Bryan now! Or maybe check with the office staff at your child's school for recommendations. Teachers might tutor after school or at night and they would be familiar with the curriculum. 4951
