Just saw on the news-- Texas Emergence Care on West Lake Houston in Atascocita is on lockdown since 10 pm last night due to a suspected ebola case. According to a different news report, they have scoured the lobby and are reopened. Anyone hear anything or know anything else? 4951

@vinbert: I heard on the radio this morning that it was a false alarm.  Someone threw up in the waiting room and everyone panicked.

How many times in the past, in every ER across the US, has someone thrown up in the lobby. This panic mode is out of control. How much will this event, and the scores of others soon to come, cost tax payers? Did the staff even ask the right questions or just panic, I'm going to guess the later. People with their doomsday attitudes are not helping matters any either. 4951

Last year I ended up in the emergency room with the flu. I had a fever of 102 and was carrying a big pot with me because I had been vomiting for 24 hours. Can you imagine the panic if I showed up in an emergency room like that today!I'm afraid that with the flu season upon us, we will be hearing more false alarms. 4951

Well, without adding to the panic, I think we're in a prime situation for this possibility. Bush airport is right there, and from one of the TSA agents I speak to on a regular basis, they are NOT screening people as they come in. You just gotta wonder...  4951

@vinbert: My daughter is flying in from Alaska next month and she is terrified. All we can do is pray.Oh, and I'll be sending her a care package with sanitizing wipes, etc.@nurse3: What can you recommend for her to stay safe while flying?

@vinbert:

Only 5 airports are screening for ebola claiming they get 94% of incoming people from 3 w Africa countries, IAH is not one of them.
New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, Washington Dulles International Airport, Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey, Chicago O’Hare International Airport and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport are the airports screening...

A friend I've known for years works in a Pharmacy in a rural part of NJ. Yesterday morning they closed the place for a few hours. A person came in with a fever and was sick. Well you go to the doctor & then go pick up your meds. They called in the county health dept & police. It was all for nothing. I didn't talk to my friend just read the article on a online newspaper. 4951

@Mahm:
Definately hand sanitizer and if you want to take extra precaution, for flu as well, get her a few masks in case she is sitting next to someone who is coughing and sneezing. I love the airborn gummies too. We have been taking them around here becuase of the head and tummy viruses going around right now. My teenage boy has been home sick with the same thing my youngest and i had a week and a half ago. HE NEVER GETS SICK! So you know its a tough virus if it gets through his immune system.

Here's a first hand account of what happened, from ADC:"My luck, I went to Texas Emergency Care last night for a personal health issue. While waiting in the observation room the Doctor and his assistant came in with a solemn look, shut the door and asked my wife and me if we had been in contact with a person from West Africa in the lobby waiting area. We said no. The Doctor said prior to us coming in that a person came in to the receptionist and claimed they just got off a plane from West Africa and felt they had symptoms of Ebola….then they decided not to stay and left. The Doctor was following protocol by asking these questions…and yes my wife asked a million and one back. He then proceeded to tell us that the lobby was shut down and we will leave by the back door when ready. The Emergency Care by protocol then called all the area’s Hospitals and ER’s to give a description of this person and what they were wearing and to be on the lookout. All agency were called and the Doctor assured us that all clear had been given to them by these agencies. The lobby was shut down and you could smell bleach all throughout the building. The doctor also pointed out the Herman Hospital is getting about 15 people a day walking in telling the ER that they have Ebola to find out they do not. Your call was this a prank or real from this person? Scares the He.. out of me." 4951

Oy! Could be a prank or could be real. Since they are still letting everyone and their brother come here from the effected countries, we may still have more cases. 4951
