My Tahoe broke down as I was heading back to work from my lunch break.  Boohoo.  It was at the really busy intersection of Memorial and Eldridge.  Pretty sure the rear end seized up.  Driving fine, stopped at the light, went to accelerate as the light turned green and a horrible screaming and forward moving resistance came from the rear of my vehicle.  *sigh*  Anyway, I've had AAA for 4 years and this is the 1st time I used my policy.  I made the phone call, quick, easy, professional.   Within 15 minutes a tow truck driver called and said he was 10 minutes away.  He got there at the time he promised, loaded up my vehicle and drove me and my vehicle all the way to my mechanic, Chris's Automotive, in New Caney.  My AAA covers a 100 mile tow and once a year, a 200 mile tow.  It cost me $120 a year for this peace of mind and it also covers my youngest son and his car, as well as ANY car either of us are in, so even if it was a friends car and it broke down, the tow is covered.  My Dad met me at the mechanics with their extra vehicle and I was back on my side of town and home by 4:15.  My only complaint is about the dicklicks that blared their horn at me while I was broke down, like I could have helped the fact my car became instantly disabled, and I purposely spoiled 60 seconds of their afternoon because they had to go around me.  I was finally able to back up on to the sidewalk and grass area next to the lane I was in, in order to clear the lane, with lots of moaning and not good sounds coming from the rear of the vehicle, but only after the lanes were clear of cars behind me.  So I only blocked one stop lights worth of people in one lane, totaling about 10 cars.   How many asked if I needed help ZERO!  How many blared their horn at me in anger, FOUR.  MFers.    Why are people so rude and inconsiderate?  (And none of uze better call AAA a lib run organization, God I'm so tired of that old worn out unoriginal canned phrase.) 4951

Glad they helped you and got you all the way back home.  AAA is well worth it, in my opinion, and especially for those who drive longer distances and on Houston's highways often.  I would have helped you if I saw you broken down there.  But I might have honked first... Emoticon  4951

We have the USAA roadside assistance.  They have helped numerous times.  We lock the keys in the car more than I care to admit.  Sorry no one offered to help.  People suck 4951

When we first moved here, our van was stolen and stripped.  We had it repaired and I checked everything to make sure it was replaced (or thought I did).  A few months later, I was driving our carpool and had a flat tire.  I pulled over and went to put on the spare tire.  That's when I discovered that I had a jack but no lug wrench.  Within a few minutes, a car pulled up behind us and asked if we needed help.  He kept a 4-way lug wrench, a jack, and some old spare tires in his trunk.  He helped us put the spare tire on.  He wouldn't let me pay him anything.  He just liked to help people.  I got his name, where he worked, and that he was single.  The next day, we sent him a big basket of snacks and fruit to him at work with a thank you note.  Even if he wouldn't take it home, he could share it with his coworkers (and they would know what a nice guy he was, if they didn't already know). There are some good people out there.  They are just not enough! 4951
