Everything you wanted to know but didn't google.http://www.washingtonpost.com/sf/national/2014/10/04/how-ebola-sped-out-of-control/I love the line "This is both a biological plague and a psychological one, and fear can spread even faster than the virus."  To me this explains the hateful comments I've been reading all over the internet about how the Texas ebola patient 'deserved to die and so does his family'.   Fear causes hate.   I don't know why is bothers me SO MUCH,  but when I read comments like that, IT SADDENS ME GREATLY.  He are humans, yet so many people have lost the qualities of being humane, kind, benevolent.

Thank you... It is nice to see something Informative rather than something people take and run with. I have seen some pretty rampant posts in various places that are not necessary if people would educate themselves rather than listen to media stories and gossip. 4951

Francita, I dont think I ever wished death on anyone, not even the dentist who about killed my kid leaving me with mountains of debt and her with years of physical and mental healing but I can understand people saying what they are saying. They see it like someone who has aids and knows it and still sleeps with women and men unprotected. They are not hating him because he has the disease but they are disgusted with the fact he knew he had it and purposly spread it to others. 4951

@Burnsway: It's all speculation that he "knew he had it" when he came over here. I've read that the pregnant woman was suspected of having a miscarriage, not Ebola, when he helped take her to the hospital. Also, it's not like he just up and bought his plane ticket the day after all that happened. It takes months to get a visa, and I've read he had planned to come for his son's graduation, but the visa was delayed and he missed the graduation, but decided to come once he got it any way because he hadn't seen his son in years.People who are claiming he just jumped on a plane to the US for medical treatment after being exposed aren't applying any common sense to the situation. It takes a good while to get a visa to come to the US, especially if you're coming from somewhere like West Africa.

He did not know he had it when he boarded the plane.  He did not know the pregnant woman he HELPED just days before his previously booked flight, had it until later.  He came here to see his son and get married to the mother of his son.  Its unfortunate he bought it here but to wish him and his family dead....SMH.   Its just by the grace of God that ebola hasn't come to America sooner, there have been epidemics in the past, this one is the worst to date.  With this day and age of transportation and travel, it wont be long before malaria comes to the US too, and it will thrive down here with all the mosquitoes.  West Nile made its way here only about 15 years ago.  Remember the SARS scare of a few years ago?  Non of this makes it right or okay or acceptable.  It is what it is, unfortunately.  AGAIN, the article was meant to be informative, and my feelings are my own.  I never called anyone on this forum out for wishing this man and his family dead.  Please do not think that I am.  I read many comments on an MSN article this morning that were just horrible and ignorant.  4951

www.cnn.com/2014/10/ 08/health/thomas-eri c-duncan-ebola/index .html This CNN report indicates he knew he had been exposed and lied to get out of the country.  Shame on him! 4951

Your information is false and illogical. He may not have known he was exposed.
Because Williams was the first Ebola case in Duncan’s neighborhood,
it’s plausible that Duncan may not have known what he was getting
himself into when he helped transport her to and from the hospital.
Indeed, the Associated Press reported that everyone who had helped
Williams get to and from the hospital assumed that her convulsions were
related to her seven-month pregnancy. Those good Samaritans have since
either been infected with Ebola or died. What is known is that Duncan had told health workers
he had just arrived from Liberia when he initially sought treatment at
Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, his sister confirmed to the
Associated Press. Duncan’s family is defending him amid
accusations that he knowingly got on a plane to the U.S. in order to
seek care for Ebola. For one, they said, it takes a long time to obtain a
visa to enter the U.S., which indicates that the trip could not have
been a spur-of-the-moment decision in response to Ebola exposure. They
also see Duncan as a hero for helping to care for Williams, who later died of Ebola. "He’s a good man,” Duncan's half-brother Wilfred Smallwood told The Star-Telegram. “He attends church. He tried to save that woman’s life in Monrovia.” 4951

If he had come here to get better care knowing he had the virus in him, he would have gone right into the hospital. He didin't. He only went when he felt sick and even then he was sent home. The hospital is MORE to blame for exposing people in Dallas than he is. He could not have bought a plane ticket so soon after being exposed. He already had plans to come here.  4951

The incubation period for Ebola is 21 days.

@Fallon: I've read that's it's something along the lines of as fast as 2 days but it can take as long as 21.  If what I read is correct, there are a plethora of factors that go into how fast a person reacts and how lethal the virus is.
