Surviving Ebola #4123

Wednesday, October 8, 09:00 pm on HD
Duration: 0:56:46

Description: In December, 2013,
in a small village in West Africa, a young boy died from the dreaded
disease, Ebola. Over the next nine months, the virulent killer would
claim more victims than all previous Ebola epidemics put together. And
for the first time, the disease escaped the isolated, rural villages
where it had first appeared and traveled in infected patients by air to
densely populated cities in several African countries. As the epidemic
threatens to spiral out of control, NOVA reports from the hot zone,
where courageous medical teams struggle to cope with a flood of victims,
to labs where scientists are racing to test vaccines and find a cure.
"Surviving Ebola" includes chilling first-hand interviews of what it's
like to contract - and survive - this terrible affliction.

Um, no, it is on the Liberal government sponsored propaganda station. Wish they would take it off and bring Rush Limbaugh channel with some good TV!

cause fiction is more fun?Rush Limbaugh: Obama Wants Americans To Get Ebola As Payback For Slavery

Radio host Rush Limbaugh suggested on Monday that President Barack
Obama is refusing to divert flights from Ebola-infected countries and
close down America’s borders because he believes that the nation
“deserves” to be infected with the virus given its history of
perpetuating slavery.
Responding to a caller on his nationally syndicated radio show,
Limbaugh launched into a soliloquy about so-called politically correct
liberals who believe that America is responsible for the spread of Ebola
in Liberia because that nation was established by freed American
slaves. “And if it hadn’t been for that they probably wouldn’t have
[Ebola]. So there are some people who think we kind of deserve a little
bit of this,” he said, before accusing elected leaders of purposely
leaving the country vulnerable to the virus.
“The danger we have now is that we elected people in positions of
power and authority who think this or think like this in terms of this
country being responsible, this country being to blame for things and
it’s that kind of thinking that leads to opposition to shutting down
airports from various countries,” Limbaugh explained, referring to the
Obama administration’s handling of the crisis.
“It leads to opposition to keeping these people out of the country:
‘How dare we? We can’t turn our back on them! They exist because of us.
We can’t turn them away!’” he said. Listen:

Though Republicans have been calling on the Obama administration to
impose strict travel bans on countries with Ebola infections, experts
warn that such a policy could make things worse.
Ill patients would have a harder time seeking treatment, international
health personnel wouldn’t be able to enter the country, and local
economies and the health infrastructures would further be devastated by a
travel ban.
Instead, the Obama administration has sent troops to infected
countries, is providing ground expertise to medical staff, establishing
field-deployable hospitals, and offering “personal protective equipment
and laboratory reagents, support for technical advisors, and other
requests.” 4951

I watched this last night (you can stream it in HD from the PBS website @ProblemAgain linked to in the original post) and what hit me the most was the difference in communal space and sanitation.  In the footage shown, the people in the African villages are living one on top another without clean water, toilets, readily available soap and/or disinfectants, etc.  The health care workers are walking around with a spray pump like the ones I use for my weed killer and the locals are right there within a few yards.  Toward the end, they showed some footage from Dallas.  Everything is covered, there's a big truck and trailer with specialized equipment and the apartment complex appears deserted.I'm not saying more people will not die in the US from this virus, but I seriously doubt it will take any sort of foothold on the mass public.  We have the knowledge of how it transmits itself, the ability to track it and communicate to as well as quarantine those who might be infected, the facilities to properly sanitize an area afterward, and the medical means to cure it (albeit a slow growth process). 4951

Yeah that is BS.  I was listening to his show on Monday and that just never happened.  Love how people know what Rush says when they never listen to his show.  Emoticonretty funny stuff.  He is misquoted and quoted out of context all the time.  He has an accuracy rate in the 98- 99%.  He wouldn't have this if the left was even close to actually reporting what he really says.  And anyone with a measurable IQ knows that if you enact a travel ban on Liberia it wouldn't be for workers going there to help, or the workers coming back.  Granted the workers coming should have to be placed in quarantine for a limited time.  That is just common sense.  Yet you can't get "reports" to be honest and report the facts.

It has long been known that Limbaugh will say whatever it takes to stir the pot and keep his ratings up.Many years ago I visited the car dealership where my father was working.  They had Limbaugh on the radio.  It surprised me because this was in dead blue forever straight-ticket democrat controlled Michigan.  We were in the heart of union loving liberal land.  My dad was talking to his buddies and they were calling Limbaugh all sorts of names.  I asked why they were listening and they said that they "listen every day to hear what this fool will say next".Bingo.  Limbaugh might be being honest...or he might be the most left leaning lib in the pile and this could all be a shtick for all we know.  What we do know is that he's going to continue to say the things he says in a divisive way because it's a proven formula to drive ratings and earn him a $400 million dollar contract. 4951

Back when Rush first started his radio program, I liked him.  However, as his popularity increased, he got more and more extreme.  I no longer regularly listen to him.  Now when I listen to him, it's mostly for entertainment.  Even extremists are sometimes right, but you have to wade through the BS to find it.As I stated in another thread, Rush Limbaugh and Jesse Jackson (and Al Sharpton) are in corners of the "crazy room". 4951

@Retired_Engineer: I totally agree.  He was good in the beginning, now it all seems to be for entertainment and shock value to keep his name out there, not to shock people into reality, as it used to be.

Limbaugh is nothing more than an angry pill popping blowhard. If I wanted to be subjected to such garbage, I merely only need to take a few people on KDC off my ignore list.

I am interested in the op's mentioned documentary. Hopefully I can find a rerun on Sunday evening. 4951

@ProblemAgain: Your a dummy, if you listen to your own post you will realize the host was quoting an author and self Ebola expert David Quammen whose was spewing those comments and Limbaugh was mocking and ridiculing him the author.
