When my Texas CHL expires will I have to get a new liscence if I move to North Carolina or will I be able to keep renewing my TX permit?
My Texas CHL is valid in North Carolina and I know I need to notify TX of my address change if I move.

While many states honor each others CHL (or equivalent), it just seems a smarter route to have a CHL from the state you reside in. If your TX CHL expires before you move, I would go ahead and renew it.  However, when THAT CHL expires, you will have to find someone that administers a TX renewal in NC or travel back to TX.  At that point, it probably makes more sense to get a NC CHL.   4951

Also, please note that while many states honor each other's CHLs, the specific rules and regulations vary from state-to-state.  You are expected to know and obey the laws of the state you are in. I recommend that either before you move, or soon after, make sure you understand NC's CHL laws. 4951

@Retired_Engineer:
I actually renew this month. But no class is required to renew in TX just $70. 4951

@foxymama:  Good point.  I forgot they changed the law.  I still think it is a good idea to eventually get a CHL from the state you reside in.  Each state also has their own fees and requirements for a CHL.  When my friend got his in Colorado, he said it was ridiculously easy.

@Retired_Engineer:  Hopefully Colorado does not go the path of California when it comes to gun laws

@CBP210:   Unfortunately, after Columbine and the Theater shooting, Colorado's politicians are moving that way.

@Retired_Engineer: I was hoping the last recall election sent a message to them.

@CBP210:  I'll have to ask my friend near Denver how it's going.  The recall HAD to make some of them take a softer stand.
