Ok,, parents... start looking.Yesterday I was on my bike on way to the gym. I'm crossing Northpark on Woodland Hills, going north towards Kingwood Park HS. I'm on the side next to the Chevron. This was around 0800,, not sure exactly.I wait for the crossing signal and the traffic to stop, and I start to cross. OUT OF NOWHERE this HS girl in New black Honda civic comes flying down Northpark and is going to turn onto woodland hills to the high school. Just as I am about to get a cross, she almost hit me. I almost fell on top of her car. It took every nerve in my body to not slam on the hood of her car. I was just on the left side of the cross walk,, if I had been in the middle, she would have hit me.She then gave me a "what the F---" look... I started yelling at her an pointing at the light telling her "There's a F--- Red light, and to slow the F--- Down!"This is the second time this has happened to me at that intersection. There is a right turn on red lane,  and people seem to think its not a stop area. They think they can just blow through it. The first lady was in a hurry to get to Starbucks, because when I got to the gym, I saw her car pull into the drive up.I have seen kids almost hit crossing the street. 4951

I would have followed her, got her parking spot # and talked to the humble isd cop. He could have had a little chat with her about it.
Most kids are safe, but there are a few around town that need their arses whooped. 4951

@KTownTexican: There is actually a green arrow to turn right there when the light is red to go straight there isn't there? Which, I think, especially since it's by the HS where kids are constantly crossing there under the "no walk" sign, they need to do away with, cause legally, you don't have to stop when there's a green arrow.I'm sure you were crossing under a "walk" sign, I'm just saying, some aren't, and I agree, it's a dangerous intersection with no need for the green arrow.

@cador: Yes I waited until the walk sign and the noise indicator informed me to cross.yes there is a green arrow,, but when the cross walk sign is for pedestrians to cross, the light is red.also,, according to the law, before you make a right turn at a lighted intersection when the main lights are red, you must still make a stop, even if the green arrow is showing. You are also supposed to stop behind the crosswalk lines,, and most people don't. There are several times, I have had to behind carsthis girl didn't do either,, she just kept coming.

@KTownTexican: can you post this law you are speaking about because here is the tx codeCHAPTER 544. TRAFFIC SIGNS, SIGNALS, AND MARKINGSSec. 544.007.(c)  An operator of a vehicle facing a green arrow signal, displayed alone or with another signal, may cautiously enter the intersection to move in the direction permitted by the arrow or other indication shown simultaneously.  The operator shall yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian lawfully in an adjacent crosswalk and other traffic lawfully using the intersection. It's not saying the driver to STOP on green arrow before Emoticonroceeding on the green arrow. It states to proceed and IF pedestrians are lawfully in the crosswalk then the driver must yield...so if the pedestrian is crossing on the no walk signal the pedestrian is in the wrong not the driver. and your saying she has a green arrow AND you had the walk signal, then yes the civic should had yielded but you didn't say that, you stated previously but when the cross walk sign is for pedestrians to cross, the light is red, Either the civic ran a red light and was in the wrong or you ignored a NO WALK signal and you are in the wrong, Emoticonlease get your facts correct...

So no she did not stop. the point is the stupid driver almost hit me because she was in a hurry, and driving like an idiot.want me to take a picture next time?as a courteous driver, you should slow down and stop even though there is a green arrow... she had neither, she had a red light, which means she should have stopped.

One thing that might help the situation is parents stop giving their little darlings new or relatively new cars.  Instead give them a hoopty.  A hoopty is one of those cars you'd be lucky to get over 60 mph.  Although a kid can drive too fast in anything, they're less likely to showboat in such a vehicle.  They make great starter cars. 4951

@rocket: agree! All of my family started out with "starter cars" we were lucky if they started!  Both the sons had them too.  We bought their first cars.  Knew a new one would just be a kicker on our insurance.  My oldest was 24 before he bought and paid for his own brand new mustang.  He's almost done now paying it off and respects that vehicle. He's also very careful with it.  My youngest just bought a great second hand car from an elderly man that only had 35k miles on it, so its old but new.  He totally has respect for it since he paid for it himself.I just can't understand people buying new for a starting out kid driving.  Graduation is one thing yes but not a 16 year old!
