Pros/Cons? Will have a Freshman in high school next year and we've heard good/bad things about both high schools. Any insight would be greatly appreciated! 4951

In my own personal experiences, KHS teaches very slightly higher level material, but I've heard the bullying there is twice as bad as it is at KPark. The KHS music department is definitely the best of the two. Both have their own strengths and weaknesses, it depends what you're looking for. 4951

@SoonersinTX: Not sure about the sports teams at KPark, but KHS exceeds my expectations in my son's AP classes. They're very vigorous courses that require a lot of time, organization, and commitment. He definitely learns a lot, and it keeps him on his toes. I don't know about this year, but last year they also had a debate club. Tons of student involvement in my own experience of KHS, and when the students are very obviously stressed, I've heard there are pep rallies and events at least once every other month.KPark is a nice school. Definitely smaller. Never had a kid in it, but I've heard lots of good things about that as well. Only thing that really alters my opinion of it is the issue with the coach last year. 4951

The coach issue could have happened at any school.I will say that issue was taken care of and the current coaches at KPARK are good decent peopleEmoticonI think if you child wants a smaller school KPARK is the way to go.  Otherwise, if you are zoned for KHS, they will thrive there as well.

@Fallon:

Appreciate your input! Do you mind me asking what the coaching situation was? 4951

I went to KHS and graduated in 93. My son graduated in 2012 from Kpark. Both schools are good and both schools have there good points and bad points

@jack1: Don't they use the same curriculum? @Fallon Do you know?  The music department is up and coming. I've had kids in band and choir for the past four years. The band got a 1 (the highest) at the area competition last yearEmoticon You're correct. They each have slightly different pros and cons, but are similar as far a a high quality education.  I would just go wherever my child is zoned forEmoticon
