So I've had this huge knot in the muscle where my neck meets my shoulder for the past 9 days. What can I do to make it go away?! The knot is just getting bigger & hurting more! I woke up crying last night, that's how bad it is. What, if anything can I do to get rid of it?! If nothing, how long will it take to go away/ me feel normal again? 4951

Very common- it's the trapezius muscle- I call it the stress muscle. Icy hot might relax it- best bet would be a massage.

Multiple massages, maybe a chiropractor. Ibuprofen to reduce inflammation. Ice packs when you have the time.

I agree with N+T you sound like you could be out of alignment.   Lay flat on your back and twist your torso and arms to the right. Knees to the left. You might be able to release the compression. My trouble spot is in my C-spine and I've purchases a 6 inch x 36" foam roller. Like a big water noodle but firm and I start at the small of my back and work it up laying on the floor. It's the bomb! Stretching helps.....get someone to rub you. Ice!   4951

They have over the counter tins units at walmart. I think the brand is icy hot. It works wonders for me when to get that knot. Its only about $20-30. Ice and motrin are your friends too. 4951

Tiger balm. If that doesn't work, try acupuncture. 4951

Thanks so much! Right now I'm rubbing ivy hot on it followed by a cold pack. I have a heat pad on standby & took Vicodin because it's so bad that it hurts when I breathe in. If this doesn't help, I will absolutely be contacting a chiropractor. It's just too painful. Are chiropractors open on weekends or will I have to wait until Monday? Do a lot of insurances cover them? We have insurance through memorial hermann. 4951
