Seems every time I get an office chair some part of the seat covering starts peeling off. The chairs are usually around $150, $200.  This last chair is great, no problems at all, except that the seat is peeling away and dropping pieces on the floor. Can these type of chairs be recovered or is it just trash? 4951

I have the same thing going on with mine.  I haven't really thought about recovering it.   4951

@QueenB: You could have it recovered, classic upholstery in humble does good work, but that cost would likely come close to buying another new chair.

Typical of cheap bonded leather, it all does that eventually. If you have it recovered with real leather it will last a very very long time... but it also will be very expensive. 4951

I use a slip cover or blanket on top of the chair.  It preserves the chair covering.  I am sitting on a 5 year old office chair.  The leather (or fake leather) looks the same as it did the day I bought the chair, because I always have had a blanket covering the chair. 4951
