It's typical of politicians/government.  Yes, the lottery proceeds go to education, but there is nothing protecting the money budgeted for education.  If the lottery gives $100million to education, politicians take $100million from the budget for education and move it wherever they want. Net benefit for education:  $00 4951

When you are retired, school taxes should stop. You have paid all your life, your kids are gone. 4951

@CBP210: if teachers unions 'get a large chunk of that', that large chunk comes out of the teachers' pockets with their consent. and schools were funded the same way when you went to school ray, so you got benefits from people whose kids were out of school paying their taxes still to support schools that you went to and later it worked the same for your kids going to school. that's the way it works and it is for the betterment of society rather than having insufficiently funded schools.

@ProblemAgain: I would rather we have better schools than focusing on funding.

Teachers who are given tenure are shown to be less effective than teachers without tenure.

Perhaps instead of focusing on keeping poorly performing schools open, and poorly performing teachers employed we should expect better performance.

@Stealth83: the thread is about the funding of the schools. quality is another issue
