My 9 month old has an extremely runny nose, no other symptoms just constant running so I'm thinking its allergies. Just wondering if its safe to give her children's Benadryl. Waiting for her docs office to open so I can call and ask but just wondering if anyone knew. Couldn't remember the numbers in @nurse name to ask her how much is safe to give. She's about 18 pounds 4951

You can use one of those nose aspirator. I think babies are way too young for Benadryl. I just recently asked about giving it to my 5 1/2 year old. It says 6 and older on the bottle. 4951

@BooBear:

That's what I'm seeing a lot of online but wanted to know anyone personally used it on a child that young. I can't remember if I ever gave it to my other daughter that young. That's been 6 yrs ago...seems like forever ago lol 4951

We use it on our 3 yr old. That's something I would definitely confirm with the doctor first though. 4951

@irispixies: My pedi just fussed at me last week for giving Benadryl to my 3 month old. She was so stuffy, she could barely breathe and couldn't get good sleep. I started by giving her 1/4 tsp., then increased it to 2 ml on the next dose because 1/4 tsp wasn't effective.My 2nd to youngest is 6, and 6 years ago, they said that Benadryl is the safest thing for infants. But information is always changing.After talking to my pedi, this is what I started doing. Boogie Mist or simply saline mist - so easy to get in her nose. It's on the baby aisle. I'm sure you have a bulb syringe / nasal aspirator. Use that to suck out the snot after a few seconds or a minute of the saline working in the nose to loosen things. Hold one nostril closed, like you would when you blow your own nose. My baby is so squirmy and she hates this process, but afterward she's much happier. And I ordered an aspirator on Amazon that is even more effective. www.amazon.com/Nosef rida-The-Snotsucker- Nasal-Aspirator/dp/B 00171WXII/ref=s also gave her a bath in Johnson's Vapor Bath. Then put BABY vapor rub on her chest and on her feet with socks at night. But another poster said vapor rub on the chest isn't safe until 2 years.In addition to all this, you could get a wedge for her crib, so she can sleep with her head elevated. Mine is still young enough that I can put her in the bouncer seat and she won't roll out.Good luck to you, and I pray your baby starts to feel better soon. 4951

Yeah- confirm with the doc. We gave it to our son under a year old- he had severe allergies and went through PE tubes like candy. But that was in the way old days when we put them in their cribs belly down because that was "proven" to reduce SIDS risk. Ha now they've proven the other way- damned if you do damned if you don't 4951
