We live in Elm Grove sec 3 on a culdesac. This morning just before 5 am, our doorbell rings. White male, white shirt, khaki shorts. He leaves with no incident in a white Nissan rogue (we think). Car was parked in culdesac where it
is dark. Called hpd non emergency # just to report the strange incident. Officer was patrolling our street in about 5 mins after I placed the call. They said they will make more patrols in our neighborhood. 4951

No he was gone before my husband could go down there. I don't go near the door when anyone comes to it after a certain time of night. It was just weird. He came to our house and left. Never went to any other house. So seriously doubt it was an emergency of any sort.

I am same way. After a certain hour at night until a certain hour in the a.m., I just don't answer the door. I too live in Elm Grove but had no one like that come by here. 4951

I only had one weird incident four years ago and it was at 100 am with a girl ringing the door bell. I answered the door and had my colt 45 holstered behind me. The girl asked to use my phone so she can call her mother to pick her up and I just handed her my cell phone. Apparently she was at a nearby house and got into a fight with her boyfriend one of my neighbors. 4951

brings back horror memories. Some 20 years ago I went to a neighbors house at 8am, banging on the door for help with my two then young sons in my arms.  My lovely (being sarcastic) neighbors refused to open the door.  I had just been raped and was running for help.  After they found 10 cops, an ambulance and all sorts of detectives at my house within the next hour they finally came over to see what was going on.  never did talk to them after that!Not all knocks on the door are evil ones.  Sometimes its someone in grave danger that needs help Emoticon 4951

With the way things have become in the world and the cell phone age I think there is a big difference between knocking on a door at a unacceptable hour now than there was 20 years ago.  Personally I don't answer my door after dark unless I know who it is, nor do I knock on anyone's door unless they now I am coming.  I am just afraid of what is on the other side of the door as they are of me or the person knocking. 4951

This is just speculation but my house was broken into yesterday and my neighbor said she saw a white suv pull up on the street and a young man get out. She said it was a smaller suv, which a Nissan rogue happens to be. We filled a police report and our neighbors gave the cop a vehicle description as a smaller newish white suv...

I forgot to add I was at work and luckily my mom had gone to the store. But I'm sure they knocked or rang the door bell to see if anyone was home. Apparently they do that. Which makes sense. 4951

@angiekaye: I did not know the girl although she has seen me and my family many times when she was visiting her boyfriend. After hearing three minutes of the conversation between her and her mother I let her in and my wife was comforting her and talking with her. My wife the next day had a long talk with the girls boyfriend parents.

there is a "crazy" caucasian older man who owns/runs a lawn maintenance crew who once several years ago rang my door bell at 5:00ish in the morning to raise sand about something.......obviously I broke off our "association" immediately - but I just throw that out there in case you may use this guy.... I'm in Elm Grove 3 also 4951

@antennaguy: I hear so many times people say "I never answer the door unless I know who it is."   This is the reason people DO need to answer the door.  You do not have to open the door to answer it, but they need to shout through the closed door for the person to GO AWAY.   I usually say "Who is it?", then when they reply, I tell them I'm not interested. If they persist I tell them to go away or I'll call the police.  So far it has worked.  More importantly it tells the person at the door that someone is indeed home. I for sure would call the police and report the incident if I ever had someone to try to continue the conversation through the closed door.  So far I have been lucky, but with the way things are I do worry about people knocking on our door.

@antennaguy:
I saw a vehicle like that in front of my neighbor's house the other day. I walked out the front door and gave them the stink eye for a few minutes. They started down the culdisac so i walked out of view and watched them turn around and then stopped in front of their house again. At this point i came down the driveway and made sure they saw me. They took off in a hurry. I knew i should have called the cops.

Beware that there have been cases of a woman with a bunch of kids knock on people's door claiming that their car broke down and she asks to use the phone.  If you invite them in, or open the door enough, the kids are trained to go wild and run throughout the house and grab stuff.   While you're trying to watch the kids, the "mother" grabs whatever she can and runs out.  When she blows the horn on her "disabled" car, the kids run outside to the car and she drives off.I haven't heard this tactic being used lately but it's someting to be aware of.if a stranger comes to my door, I will either ask them what they want through the door, or grab one of my dogs by the collar and as I open the door, let her surge forward a bit.  The person at the door instinctively takes a step or two back.  It also helps that our dogs bark like crazy if anyone comes to our door!  They are better than the alarm system! 4951

@TexasOma:  I have a window with plantation shutters that looks directly out to my front door.  Not afraid of looking when someone is knocking and shouting through the window.
