@antennaguy: I hear so many times people say "I never answer the door unless I know who it is."  This is the reason people DO need to answer the door. You do not have to open the door to answer it, but they need to shout through the closed door for the person to GO AWAY.  I usually say "Who is it?", then when they reply, I tell them I'm not interested. If they persist I tell them to go away or I'll call the police. So far it has worked. More importantly it tells the person at the door that someone is indeed home. I for sure would call the police and report the incident if I ever had someone to try to continue the conversation through the closed door. So far I have been lucky, but with the way things are I do worry about people knocking on our door.Â
