Texas Children's Hospital is the best place, I think, for therapy. But as far as diagnosing, I think any doctor would say any child has ADHD just because kids are hyper by nature. But I think TCH would also do that, or you could discuss it with the school psychologist. Not too sure of any credible psychiatrists or psychologists in Kingwood/Humble. 4951

Texas Children's has the Bluebird clinic, which is the best.  The clinic requires a referral so you can ask your Pediatrician. I've been through the diagnosing circus with my son, and I wish 15 years ago I would have gone to TCH. Good luck! 4951

You should go through the school psychologist first. They'll observe your child for a while, then they will refer you to a therapist or psychiatrist. Only psychiatrists can prescribe meds. 4951

I would agree that the school psychologist can help you.  They will also have you fill out a form with questions which gives them the parent's perspective along with a teacher (s).  It is very expensive to go outside because insurance companies usually do not pay for the testing.  Unless it is different here in Texas.   4951

@lindseyoneal86: The bluebird clinic doesn't.  It is more for conditions like epilepsy.  TCH does, test for ADHD and treat it.  Try the mental health clinics and psychiatry clinics on the website.http://www.texaschildrens.org/Locate/Departments-and-Services/Psychiatry/

2 years ago her daycare completed those surveys from our family doctor. I then talked myself out of it and wanted to believe that she would grow out of it with age. Now she is in school and is very much an issue. I will Keep researching the best option and make appointments Monday. Her teacher is also going to have the school counseling office contact me. I truly appreciate all the help and hoping to find the best method for my daughter. 4951

Our Dr at Texas Children's pediatrics on WLH gives the forms and consults with the parents to diagnose ADHD.
We were very pleased with the process.

Under no circumstance would I have the school fill out the forms. The schools were not involved in the diagnosis & I was perfectly fine with that. I did not want my child labeled through school years.

Everything is good and my child no longer needs the medication.

I wish you the best of luck! 4951

@lindseyoneal86:
I know this is not what you asked for, but this is an article that I read 3 years ago about a supplement I was taking. I was taking it for stress and anxiety, and I googled it to see if there were other benefits. This article talks about it being helpful for ADHD. I googled it again this morning and there are now tons of websites saying the same thing. L-Theanine is all-natural, a green tea derivative, and is approved as an unlimited food additive in Japan. It takes effect in 20 minutes and has no drug interactions. It is perfectly safe for children. If I were you, I would at least give this a try before having a doctor prescribe your child something that is essentially an amphetamine. I'm sure you are feeling desperate. For $12 a bottle, I don't think it would hurt. You know your child. Do you really need testing to tell you what you already know?

Whenever someone ask about adhd you will get 1000 opinions .....lol. So here is mine. And it is just "ANOTHER" opinion.  It wont be a doc listing because I generally dont use psychiatrist unless the issue becomes obvious all else didn't work and unfortunately sometimes thats the case.My unasked for opinion is that schools and doctors are over looking an area of issues with children that is being misdiagnosed. Sensory processing disorder. It is genetic sometimes. But sometimes its due to head trauma but one of the biggest reasons is society changes IMO. Your childs sensory system is developed the most through toddler years. Its developed by hard core play outside. Eating a variety of foods, hearing lots of loud noises, playing in the mud, running and falling, getting scared, lots of contact. All of these millions of actions over the first few years teaches the childs sensory input, output how to react properly.We as parents have a lot these days to fear and unintentionally block a lot of natural sensory input for our kids. Around age 5 it starts to surface. Im on my phone so will have to edit typoes since this is long but its very important you make sure your child isn't dealing with sensory issues first because medication and adhd therapy usually wont work and could make it worst. If your child is being labeled a drama child/queen or super sensitive she/he is probably having sensory issues. Too loud, too heavy, too scary, too spicey, clothes tags hurt, introverted or too in your face, or all the opposites, cant hear you, falls gets hurt but doesnt feel it, food taste yucky and bland, day dreaming, only wants to wear certain clothes, wont sit still or too lazy, too hot too cold.....these are all sensory confusion/ failure signs. A doorbell may sound like a large boom to them or a hug may feel like a tackle while a skinned knee may go un noticed and you think boy my kid is tough as that would make me cry. They soon will start showing ADHD or mild autistic symptoms and the real issue goes untreated. Almost all adhd kids and autistic kids have some SPD but many children have spd alone and are misdiagnosed so when you seek out a doctor, make sure they dont blow off any spd factors. If they do.....runIm not saying to NOT have your child tested, that would be very wrong of me as Im not a doctor but Im saying to please seek out several opinions before using medications or getting your child labeled. ASK LOTS OF QUESTIONS!!!!!! I also would not involve the school until I had to but thats another whole 2 pages of whys.....LOLHere are some links to get you started learning SPD so you can ask her doctor if this could be the issue,http://spdfoundation.net/about-sensory-processing-disorder.htmlhttp://asensorylife.com/index.htmlhttp://www.themotherco.com/2012/04/sensory-processing-disorder/ 4951
