Curiosity is killing me - gotta know.   For a very long time now the properties on the east side near the railroad tracks have been for sale and the terrible campground on the west side of the tracks also had a for sale sign.  I saw on HAR.com about a year ago the east side of the tracks properties listed on the residential listings, but then those listings disappeared. I figured that was a mistake by HAR because it's obviously commercial property. But I got a glimpse of the size of the properties and how many were for sale.  I was guessing apartments would be going in since I doubt a homeowner would want their property in a flood prone area. Late last week we noticed that the campground and the properties on the east side all have gates closing off entry where people have made a road into those properties to get to the river.  There are also survey stakes marking the boundaries.  That tells me the properties are sold and something if fixing to happen. Anyone know?  I figured @ adammaxis might know since he frequently posts about commercial activity around Houston. I haven't seen any posts from him in a while, but I haven't been on much in a while.   Help a nosy old lady figure out what's going in by the tracks.  I would hate for apartments to be put there and I can't imagine a shopping center where the river rises every time it rains up north.  4951

I did see a guy working on a gate to the old sand pit off Hamblen.  The property on the east side of the tracks to the quickie mart backs up to a cove of sorts off the river.  The little road by the quickie mart will take you down to the houses on this cove.  The road where the guy that does the state inspections is located.  On a side note...if you need your car inspected this guy only takes cash and he is awesome. 4951

I didn't know there were houses back there, never been brave enough to drive down that little road.  When I saw the HAR.com listings the first time it had the listings for
both the north & south sides of the road.  Those properties have had
For Sale signs for a very long time, those signs are down. I think
there is one left, but there are survey stakes on both sides of the
road.  From what I can tell, it's such a large mass of property purchased that whatever is going in is B I G! ! ! !   But, knowing that the whole area floods, I just can't imagine what would go in there.  They would have to fill the swamps on both sides of the roads and I don't think the Corp of Engineers will allow the swamps to be filled.  I'll miss the treed & overgrown greenery entrance into Forest Cove.  It's not pretty, but it's better than Hamblen being lined with commercial buildings or apartments.  4951

I would love to see something recreational go in there. Many years ago (20+) there was a kayak rental in the area. It would be nice to have something like that again. I hope they keep the entrance green. 4951

@Burnsway:

That's even a worse idea than my thinking. We could never get out of our subdivision, the traffic in the summer would be terrible. 4951

I thought that was where they are going to put in a huge shopping strip, supposed to open late 2016 or something.  there was another thread about it on here.   Supposedly something like The woodlands strips. 4951

@TexasOma: I spoke with the owner of ZZ Gators and he told me that the company Landry's Inc. purchased all the land for a development. They are the people that own Kemah Boardwalk, Pleasure Pier in Glaveston and the Houston Aquarium as well as many many seafood and steakhouse restaurants so I think you're right. If this rumor is true than it's going to be BIG news for Forest Cove.

@Drekonix: I'm not liking that at all.  Kemah Boardwalk and Pleasure Pier are crowded masses of people and it's open until 12-2 in the morning.  Noise, noise, noise...bring back the train noise, at least it was a pleasant peaceful noise.  Hamblen is such a small street and that intersection at 494 is a death trap waiting to happen.  I need to sell quickly and get out of Dodge.
That used to be an Indian burial ground.

@fcabanski: Wonder if that will be enough to stop the project?  Hope so!!!
