I know on one hand this will be controversial, but there just seems so much wrong with this.So no matter what your thoughts are, lets still keep in mind toJennifer Ann Whalen, 39, of Washingtonville, a single mother who works as a nursing home aide, pleaded guilty in August to obtaining the miscarriage-inducing pills from an online site in Europe for her daughter, 16, who did not want to have the child.Whalen was sentenced on Friday by Montour County Court of Common Pleas Judge Gary Norton to serve 12 months to 18 months in prison for violating a state law that requires abortions to be performed by physicians. She was also fined $1,000 and ordered to perform 40 hours of community service after her release. The felony offense called for up to seven years in prison and a $15,000 fine.LINK to story 4951

laws & rules are put forward to protect people & if you do not obey the law then you need to be punished . She got what she deserved , she took a human life , all children deserve a chance to be born ....JMO. If her daughter did not want the baby there are a lot of couples that will want that baby . Shame on both of them for not giving that baby a chance to know love & life. 4951

Women/girls have the right to have an aboration but when a mother gives it to the daughter it's a crime ? Or when a murderer kills a women that was pregnant its a murder against the unborn child ...it's all messed up ..what society has accepted as a "life" or considers a life at its own convenience..??

She was found guilty in a court of law and I agree with it. What she did was carless and dangerous. 4951

Now I am going to make some assumptions hereNursing home aide, might not have all that much money.Might not have benefits even (don't know). But maybe a baby and abortion were out of her price range. It is possible the pill/s were her only affordable option.Just throwing that out there. 4951

I see where you're going with this, but illegal is illegal

@mm4731: I am not arguing that, nor am I arguing it was correct, justified, etc.
But if in her position, what would you do?I am pretty sure the yelling, what were you thinking, crying, etc. already took place.Having been a single parent with custody in the past, it is not always easy.So if you are up against the wall, what would you do? 4951

The nearest legal safe place was only 75 miles away..a little over an hour drive. She ends up running up a hospital bill and now is going to jail..stupid.. 4951

She would have been better off robbing a gas station for the money..less jail time if any and she wouldnt have almost killed her daughter. 4951

One way or the other the baby would have died.  I see people commenting on a threat to the pregnant girl's life.  Abortion is a threat to the baby's life. The choice comes when the woman performs the act to become pregnant.BTW, rape accounts for less than 1% of abortions.  So don't use the "but what about rape" argument.Given all this, it is not the government's place to monitor what a woman does with her body.  Laws are for law breakers. 4951

I wouldn't have aborted my daughter's baby myself nor would I have hired someone to do it. Young girls who have abortions too often have life-altering psychological issues afterwards because no matter how much the world seems to accept abortion, the girl herself knows she has chosen to have her baby killed instead of allowing him or her to live the life they would have had if allowed to survive. That's hard to live with, no matter how logical the reasons seem for ending this life that you started.
