why is it that social media seems to rule peoples lives... everything is taken as a personal attack and end of world situation...  example...Acting up and yelling on a plane can be grounds for getting kicked off. But tweeting? Well, yeah. Now that's a thing.One family from the Twin Cities was asked to leave a Southwest Airlines flight to Minneapolis from Denver, because the dad tweeted a complaint about one of the gate agents.With priority seating, Duff Watson was told he would either have to board Flight 2347 separately from his 6-year-old and 9-year-old children (who didn't have the same elite flight status as their dad), or wait to all board together later. After arguing with a staff member, Watson posted an angry tweet: "Something to the effect of, ‘Wow, rudest agent in Denver. Kimberly S, gate C39, not happy @SWA’”, he told CBS Minnesota. Once the Watsons had taken their seats, they were removed from the plane by the agent involved in the argument, who allegedly told Watson: "You can’t board the plane unless you delete that tweet", adding that she felt "threatened" by his social media post.Watson complied, and the whole family was able to resume its trip to Minneapolis. As a Southwest spokesperson explained the incident to Mashable, "A Southwest Airlines employee and customer were having a conversation about the airline's family boarding procedures that escalated... The customer was removed from flight #2347 from DEN to MSP for a period of time to resolve the conversation outside of the aircraft and away from the other passengers." The airline has since issued an apology to Watson and his family over email, along with offering coupons worth $150.You are now free to tweet about your flight. 4951

If they felt so threatened why did they offer him the choice to remove the tweet then board the flight. They didnt feel threatened at all, they were being bullies. 4951

Who doesn't board with their family?  Seems like the ticket taker had PMS. 4951

If the rules of Southwest are you don't board as a family then that's the rules - you know that when you sign up for their miles programs and accept that at the time.So really who is the whiner?  Yup the person who wanted to change the rules and got mad when they couldn't even though they knew them.They were wrong to post what they did and then got rewarded.That sucks

@Stealth83:

I hate to do this...but I agree with you. If those are the rules, everyone needs to follow. If it's that big of a deal, what is the harm in waiting to board with the rest of your family? 4951

well IMO its not the point on who was in the right. Its the point they said remove the tweet or you dont board. He has every right to tweet that he was upset with them. Even if they were in the right. To tell someone to remove a post/tweet or whatever seems a bit of a power trip.  4951

@Burnsway:

I agree with that. He can post whatever he wants. If they were afraid of loosing customers because of that 1 tweet...they could have responded to it appropriately by, citing their policy, and moved on. 4951

That was my point @taramay  I learned long ago through the dental thing, I will use a dentist that has bad reviews as long as they defended themselves and leave the review, then I research it to see whats true and whats not. I do not trust companies that have only good reviews because then its obvious they are having them removed to look better than they are because no business goes without pissing someone off somehow....LOL. The review wasn't horrible either, The guy just said the worker had an attitude, he didn't say the company sucked or did something they didn't do. He said he wasn't happy with them at that moment. He may have been in the wrong or they may have been, I dont know the policy so cant say, but the review wasnt slander or threatening in any way. Plus they were suggesting he board separate from 2 minor children. If I was a business owner I would break policy for the safety of the children myself but thats me. 4951

I will admit he probably shouldnt have used her name.....that was a little overboard but other than that the tweet was more an opinion than any kind of threat. 4951

As to the original point of the thread...social media has made it a lot easier for people to play the victim.

Just the other day a distant relative of mine posted that she "just needs to be single." Why would she make that public?!?! She's been married over 20 years and is in her 50's. Not only did she say it for all her friends to see, but her husband's friends AND her adult son to see also! If she were serious about filing for divorce...fine. But to post something so personal like that just to gain attention from all her "friends" is so lame to me. Especially when she responds a few days later saying she was just irritated with her "idiot" husband. But she loves him anyway. Emoticon

Do grown adults really tweet?  I thought that was for teenagers.  If you need that much validation in your life, however, I guess you aren't really an adult after all. 4951

people tweet and post about everything,, then they get fussy when someone says something back. I have had people yelling and screaming and making threats,, over a jokesocial media has caused problems with kids taking things so personal,,  when a person posts a personal item on the internet, they should expect repercussion... never post a name, with your complaint on a tweet,, just post it on a forum where complaints are dealt with. 4951
