25 years ago Pete Rose was caught red handed betting on the Reds , a huge NO-NO since he was managing the reds at the time . He was tried & thrown out of  baseball for LIFE . He should have been in the Baseball Hall of Fame  but because of  the decision to throw him out of baseball for life he was not allowed in the Baseball Hall of Fame . Last night he played for the 1st time in 25 years at the Freedom Center  in Florence Kentucky & his appearance drew 3 times the normal  attendance  at the Freedom Center. Pete Rose has apologized  many times over for his wrong doing & has asked to be reconsidered for entry into the Baseball Hall of fame . Like most people who know & love Pete Rose for what he has done for baseball during his career most people feel 25 years is long enough to pay for one mistake & he should be allowed into the  Baseball Hall of Fame  for what he did accomplish during his baseball years. Won't happen.

I too feel he should be in the HOF based upon his playing accomplishments. However, he did break the rules by betting and they gave him a lifetime ban. A life time means a lifetime period. 4951

Well there is a brand new commissioner replacing Selig, so we'll see if the new dude has a change of heart. 4951

@WskyTngoFxtrt: So lifetime ban means oh, wait, unless we get another commissioner, then maybe not do lifetime? 4951

Hopefully this new guy will take everything Pete has done for baseball & allow Pete to be in the Hall where he belongs , After all  it's what he earned while he was in baseball & that should stand for something. JMO...there is a poll that you can sign for Pete , it's suppose to be  "online"  to allow him into the Baseball Hall of Fame ....hubby & I will sign it for sure. 4951

NOT a fan of him. He lived in Forest Park when I lived there-back in the early 70's. Let's just say he was not well thought of, and no one was very surprised when he got caught cheating. For me, his escapades behind the scenes far outweigh what he accomplished on the field. Yeah I get he is entitled to his private life but the few dealings I had with him proved to me he is a real ****. So lifetime ban means that- if not let's reinstate Lance Armstrong's 7 Tour de France titles. Cheating is cheating- pure and simple 4951

If they let him in, where is the incentive to others to NOT do wrong? It is not only about Pete Rose. 4951

@FoFa: Exactly. Too many talented professional athletes feel they can do "whatever" in their personal lives and get away with it because they're just "so" great at their respective sport. He just left a really bad taste in my mouth for professional athletes. Now I will say Sparky Anderson. And Johnny Bench lived in Forest Park too- and they ( ESP Sparky) were the nicest people. The community had a lot of respect for those 2 and they treated the community with respect

The incentive for not doing wrong comes from within a person.  Laws are for law breakers.  Outside rules punish.  They do not guide. 4951

Pete Rose made the Hall of Fame,, BEFORE he was a manager,, Yes he was betting, but he NEVER changed the outcome of the games to win bets. When there is a new commissioner,, after the old one dies,, Pete Rose will be allowed in the HoF,, with an asterick *  like a few other sports figures who used steroids to win home runs.  It is a travesty, that he is not in the HoF 4951

This reminds me of the Reggie Bush saga with his Heisman getting stripped for taking kick-backs from USC donors, which was against the rules, policies and sanctions........I mean, Reggie Bush had some pretty AMAZE-BALLS stats which led to his Heisman nomination and victory.... ...BUT....  ......He broke the rules, and therefore resulted in the loss and stripping of this elite honor..... 4951

Was he ever prosecuted for anything illegal, and from what I remember he bet on his team to win.The issue is that what he had done is unethical. I was just listening to the radio this morning and there are some football players that are suspended a few games for testing positive for some sort of drugs. Aren`t drugs illegal? The problem is that there are double standards in all professional sports. Look at Michael Vick, he was prosecuted and spent time in prison. When he gets out he is signed to a multimillion dollar contract. I liked Pete Rose as a baseball player and manager, but I feel that he should not be allowed into be entered into the Hall of Fame. I also think that any professional player, in any sport should not be able to return if they are going to participate in illegal or unethical practices. 4951
