I always leave a 15% contingency "safety net" Â and if it doesnt get used up, your management will love you for bringing the project home under budget. On my personal budget it gets rolled into savings/investments on top of what I already save/invest.
@PedroDePacas: Usually adding a safety net gets the project denied.we're non profit and we have several buisness groups that pay our bills. I do up routine stuff by 10 to 12% though.

You would think any manager in any business would rather add contingency into their plan rather than have to bust their budget and then have to explain why all their projects are over-budget. That would be the last conversation I'd like to have with my management team. 4951
