Not a full batch but I added some to a rice mixture once. Not sure what the problem but, but it did not cook completely like the other rice did. 4951

I always made stuffed peppers with white rice and put it in raw. But we switched to brown rice & it was always crunchy, so we par-boil the brown rice before we use it in the stuffed peppers and it's fine then.I not sure if it's time or more liquid. Even though one time we cooked the stuffed peppers till they were mush and the rice was still not done. I think brown rice needs more liquid than white rice.P.S. I've never used a rice cooker... 4951

I just used it to boost up a dirty rice mix when we had one more person eating than expected. I don't like hanging leftovers so I try to make just enough. The only kinds of rice I had were jasmine rice or brown rice. More water would have made the rest too wet for my preference and the jasmine just didn't see to fit. I think maybe I'll just make sure I always have enough to double the recipe when I make it again. It's not like my favorite mixes or too pricey to have some extra on hand. 4951

On the stove top, brown rice has to simmer for about 45 minutes, as opposed to 20 for white. It seems like there would be instructions with the rice cooker for brown rice. Maybe you can find an online manual for your model, 4951

@Mahm:
Then it doesn't make sense that it was still crunchy because the dirty rice dish that I make in the rice cooker actually cooks for 45 minutes.

@donnatella: That is odd. Maybe the white rice absorbs water faster, so the brown rice can't get as much as it needs? I've never tried cooking blended rice like that, and I haven't cooked brown rice in forever. I buy a giant bag of basmati, and cook that with everything, because DH likes consistency. Sigh.

I don't use a rice cooker, they are more complicated than making it on the stove. 4951

Brown rice is white rice that hasn't had its bran and germ removed.  Brown rice is considered a whole grain product.  It takes a longer cooking time because the bran and germ are hard.  Brown rice has the same calories as white rice but has more nutritional value.I also go with a pot on the stove and don't use a rice cooker.  My father cooked rice since he was a teenager and he switched to cooking it in the microwave in his last years. 4951

@Retired_Engineer:  I love men that can cook.  I guess that's why most of the male celebrity chefs are so popular.

@donnatella:   I think it's absurd for men NOT to be able to cook some basics.In college, La Tech closed it's cafeterias down on weekends because most students went home on weekends. Those of us that stayed had to fend for ourselves.  There was an oven/stove right across from our dorm room.  A bunch of us would chip in $2-3 and I would cook something.  Spaghetti was very popular, and I also made soups, stews, etc.  Cheap but filling!
My father cooked a big Cajun meal every Sunday.  He was a better cook than my mom (in general), but she was a great vegetable cook and a great baker. 4951

Rice cookers are too much trouble for me. I just use any ol pot and a 2 to one ratio of water to rice for white, 3 to one for brown rice which takes twice as long as white to cook. about 35 min. 4951
