Brown rice has the same calories as white rice but has more nutritional value.I also go with a pot on the stove and don't use a rice cooker. My father cooked rice since he was a teenager and he switched to cooking it in the microwave in his last years.

@donnatella: I think it's absurd for men NOT to be able to cook some basics.In college, La Tech closed it's cafeterias down on weekends because most students went home on weekends. Those of us that stayed had to fend for ourselves. There was an oven/stove right across from our dorm room. A bunch of us would chip in $2-3 and I would cook something. Spaghetti was very popular, and I also made soups, stews, etc. Cheap but filling!
My father cooked a big Cajun meal every Sunday. He was a better cook than my mom (in general), but she was a great vegetable cook and a great baker. 4951
