Good Morning All, I'm new to TX and Kingwood and we are remodeling our 1980's kitchen.  Just curious what's most popular here for resale, quartz or granite?  We don't expect this to be our forever home, so we want to make good choices.Found a quartzite that I love, but it's too $$!Any opinion on 2cm or 3cm?Anyone have a fabricator they recommend with good pricing?Thanks,MarT 4951

People are still really into granite here. I'd go 3mm.

I'd do quartz if it were my forever home. 4951

We updated ours when we first moved in. Replaced the corian with Granite. I think I read where Quartz can stain. I got 3 quotes: Houston Custom Carpets was off the charts expensive and you have to make a drive to the granite yard to pick out the slab. 2: Unique showroom-The guy that gave me the estimate was SO NOT on the ball and it was dropped many times. A little cheaper than Houston CC. There is a granite yard on the left across the street from home depot. I went with them and saved 2800 bucks. They did a great job and I'd go with them again if I were to eventually update my baths. I Went to Humble,abbycarpet.com for my custom backsplash. I found a perfect decorative 12 x 12 mosaic at Lowes for right behind the stove. Michelle is who I worked with and she was THE BEST! Her contractor was meticulous and it came out great. She was Really really good at making my vision/design come to life. Pleased as punch!!!! 4951

@cgm10sne1:

Quartz is non porous. So it's stain, scratch, heat resistant. But like all things...I'm sure it can stain. 4951

There are tons of granite yards around houston. Find a good contractor and they'll direct you to the yards to go to. It is worth your time to go pick your own slab if you go with granite. If not you could end up with a slab with huge imperfections or veining that you don't like. A slab looks VERY different than just a small sample.

There's a quartzite called White Macabus that looks like marble, it's beautiful and has all the good characteristics of granite, but out of my budget.  If this was my forever home........I like soapstone too, but it requires more maintenance and is so dark.  We have a screened in porch behind our kitchen which blocks a lot of light, so I'm trying to keep everything pretty light in the kitchen redo.  4951

It's my dream in life to have marble counters. Not going to happen until I'm old and have no kids living at home. 4951

Pop off one of the cabinet doors and bring with you...........unless they are white Emoticon The wood tones in the cabs would definitely affect my granite selection.  4951

Good idea! Bring along paint and tile options too if you have your heart set. I took pictures of my kitchen and floors when we went and picked our granite out. 4951

That's another money pit project. The Kitchen tile floors have several pieces that have lost grout here and there. I am going to go with Travertine me thinks! As it stands now, when you come inside from the pool and you have the slightest wet feet (even with the mat that's inside to step on) you can bust your butt really quick. Something a little rougher might be just the ticket. Way way down the road on this update. @Mar T   take some before and afters and durings for that matter and show off your new updated Kitchen!!!! 4951
