2 weeks and 3 days ago I decided I wanted to make my own pickles. So...I found a recipe that looked easy but delicious. It was my first time canning anything, so I wanted to start off easy. Today they were ready to open. OMG! I'm never buying pickles from the store ever again! Not gonna lie...feeling pretty good about myself right now! Even the wee one likes them, and she's never even had a pickle before today!

@djchavez0921:

Here's the one I used. Changed it a bit because I like things a little spicy. And I couldn't find dill flowers...so I just used a combo of fresh dill and dill seeds. I also added a bit more garlic and red pepper flakes.

Now you have to start growing your own cukes and peppers to achieve and even more awesome pickle. Sadly I didn't get many cukes out of my garden this summer Emoticon 4951

I'm not good at gardening. The only reason my hanging baskets of flowers are alive is because the sprinkler gets them for me. 4951

Homemade pickles are totally awesome! Growing cucumbers is easy. It's one of the easiest veggies to grow.
Just put seeds in good soil and have a trellis for them to grow on. Keep them watered and use a little fertiler or liquid miracle grow(every week or 2) . And in a few months you will have a ton! 4951

I just canned bread & butter pickles , I prefer canning cause I can store them on the shelf & not in the fridge . But the garlic pickles do sound good so maybe I'll make a few jars with my next batch of cucumbers. Thanks for sharing ..... 4951

@fcabanski:

I don't really remember. But I had to buy everything. So 12 jars, all the spices, cucumbers, dill, and garlic.

I have enough spices to make probably 20 more batches of 4 1qt. Jars. And the jars will last forever.

All I'll have to buy to make them again are the cucumbers, dill, and garlic.

Even if in the long run it doesn't save me any money...I'll still keep doing it because they taste way better than store bought and they're fun to make. 4951

Awesome! I think I might have to try this one day. I never realized that most (all but maybe 1 brand I think) jars of pickles at the store contain high fructose corn syrup which I avoid.
Homemade pickles ftw! 4951
