I've been wondering something to those out there who have been looking into getting a pool. Why not go with an above ground? I had one growing up and man we used that thing like crazy. I love the look of an in ground but an above ground is just so much cheaper. Just wondering. 4951

@mpjp0907:
Haven't you see that commercial where the side collapses and the kid rides the way out on his floatie?

That's why no above-ground pools.

We have a 16' above ground pool.  First year to have it, but we love it.  4951

My brother had a large above ground pool. He used it one season and worked his butt off getting the chemistry right. He gave it away...although he probably was given the pool from the start. I personally think they are an eyesore if they are not fenced in the yard. I've seen quite a few around the porter area on a little acreage and most look like they haven't been taken care of. To each his own.  4951

And you will never get your money back if you sell.
I enjoyed having a pool. I loved sitting out listening to it at night, I would put an air mattress in and the dogs and me would float all day. I love to swim and the hottub was awesome in the winter time.

I was never more happy to sell that house and not have the pool. It was a second job taking care of it. 4951

Check with your HOA if it can be seen from the front of your yard.  Some HOA's will not allow them.  But if they can't see them, oh wellEmoticonI know the cost now to put in a pool is pushing 55K easily.  Neighbors had one put in 4 years ago, and they did the landscaping to save money, and it was 45K.   Nothing special just a basic pool.A pool with all the bells and whistles and you will be at 65K with zero effort.

@Fallon:

My house is to big and totally fenced in so no seeing anything from the street. Haha! Well except for @mm4731 4951

I'm talking about a nice pool not one you can get at walmart lol. My sister has a 27" round that she loves that looks really good. Her hubby built an amazing deck to go around it. I know she spent around 3k for it. I wouldn't mind spending the money for a nice above ground with a deck around. Hmmm who knows 4951

@BooBear: I'm on the other end of that where I'll never own another house without a pool until we move to Hawaii.  I don't mind the extra work and I'd estimate I spend 40-50% of my free time either in it or sitting in the back yard listening to the waterfall.  House with a pool definitely isn't in our HI budget but the beaches aren't exactly Galveston, either.  :-)

@shodan66:
I might would have felt different if it had been a newer build. I believe the pool was about 20 years old which meant money pit. New filter system to get away from sand, replastering, new heater and chemicals. And all the pollen and pine straw.

I would maybe be okay putting one in here because we have no pine trees.
