DD starts gymnastics along with her cheerleading this fall. She went on a field trip to Juergen's this summer & fell in love. Anyone else have any experience with them? How did their classes work? (She'll be 8 next month.) What are their prices like?? Anyone have any experience elsewhere? Same questions- how did it work, when were classes, & prices? Thanks! 4951

My kids both took gymnastics at Rowland Ballard.  They have a location in Atascocita and Kingwood.  Check out both gyms....  If she just wants to take a class either will be fine.. but if she wants to go on and compete she needs to look seriously at Rowland Ballard.  My kids did 10 years of competition gymnastics and were highly ranked in state.  It is not a cheap sport, but It is a great one!! 4951

LOL, I cant remember exactly. Just be prepared as there is a lot of politics in the sport when you choose competitive teams.She started at kingwood Dance and gymnastics academy and they **** me off....LOL So we went to the Y and of course that was fun but thats about it so we went to Juergans, We were there about 2 years, She was on the preteam and then level 4 teams and cant remember why(wasnt anything bad) we transferred over to Excel(no longer in business) where she competed level 4 and 5 and worked out about 25-30 hours a week, there was a huge fight between head coach and owner and we leftWe then went  to achims in Spring(no longer in business) where she competed level 5 and some 6 and was training some level 7 moves but decided she was done and quit and went into swimming, we were living in Willis when we used achim, he was in spring and IMO he was the best out of all of them as far as coaching. She had a french coach named JP(he had a lot of false rumors about him) most of her training as it seemed whatever place he went we went,,,,,lol, he was even at achims when we quit and he later opened his own place but it flopped after a year or two. Achim was German and we adored him. I dont know why but seems in gymnastics your foreign coaches do the best but they are usually very very tough. My oldest liked and needed that but Dawn would never do good in that type of environment.I havent spoken with Juergan himself in years but someone said he was now married had a kid and only managed, no longer taught classes but If Dawn ever wanted to compete on teams he would be the first I would interview for placement.I believe when not on teams we paid about 75 a month for twice a week, when on teams we seemed to pay about 150-225 depending on place and amount of hours. Of course each competition and uniforms and gear was always extra. Some state meets will consist of travel expenses.Doesnt matter how great a place is, if they put your kid with a bad coach its a waste of money. It all depends on coach and amount of hours training  if you want team material. If not almost all coaches can do good for learning the basic moves even the YMCA. 4951

Also if its just the cheerleading training you want it for they almost ALL have separate tumbling and cheer classes. 4951

@Burnsway:

You have been soooo super helpful! Thank you!! We don't want cheer/ tumbling separately. Not just yet anyways but it's a good possibility for the future. She cheers somewhere else & they moved her up to competing in All Stars with the older girls instead of Varsity with her own age range because she's more advanced. She's been in dance for the fall/spring since she was 2 then cheered in the summer since she was 4 but she has decided she wants to make cheer her main focus now. She's ALSO addicted to doing cartwheels, round offs, uses anything she can as a balance beam, & has begged for over the past year to do gymnastics, so gymnastics & cheer seem like a winning combo. 4951

Hey HeatherMy daughter went to Juergens several years ago for their gymnastic and although I thought it was packed it was still allright. My daughter started getting into martial arts later which is why we do not utilize Juergens anymore. 4951

My kids competed at both Rowland Ballards and Juergens many many years ago.  I am not going to offer advice because I'm sure that both facilities have changed somewhat so I would to talk to both of them, observe and ask if they offer a free class.  It depends on what you want out of it.  If all you want is the basics to help with cheer that's one thing but competitive gymnastics is a totally different thing and requires a lot of time and expense.  4951
