There was also an article about the city paying AN ADDITIONAL  $45,595 to read emails, upload some data, and do more traffic studies.  Of that, $16,775 to read 110 emails!http://www.ourtribune.com/article.php?id=17340 4951

Kingwood is not in need of more or better shopping centers. The draw of Kingwood was the forest.  4951

They should just update the stores we allready have and not build more. Most of the shopping centers are still outdated looking. 4951

would you honestly spend more money if a store just put on a new facade?

@Stealth83: I might.  I've lived here for 15+ years and went inside Taco Bell on KW Dr. for the first time last year and was shocked at how old and dingy that place was.  I would go back inside and spend money if it was updated and cleaned up. There are other places that could use a freshening up, but that was the first that came to mind.

@monyhoney:

@BooBear: ABOUT TIME!  The Chick-fil-a in Atascocita hasn't been there very long and has already been remodeled.  (Although I saw no need to revamp that place so soon.)

Two words:FLOOD CONTROLThat's how the hospital expansion (a parking garage and heliport) at the corner of Kingwood Dr and the I-59 feeder was killed by citizens a few years when it was presented to the KSA board.There was nowhere near enough drainage with that much concrete in such a small area. The concern was that the intersection would flood, especially during a tropical storm or hurricane, cutting off Kingwood from the hospital and emergency response on the other side of the freeway. The same could be said of this new development. A quick look at the Harris County Flood Map (http://www.harriscountyfemt.org/) shows the intersection area of Kingwood Drive and W. Lake Houston is IN or immediately adjacent to the 100-year Floodplain. If they increase the concrete, even with Retention Ponds, there's a much better chance of FLOODING in the subdivisions to the east and south (Sand Creek, Kings Crossing, Kingwood Green, Fosters Mill, Kings Harbor, etc). That extra water has to go SOMEWHERE, and it will go down creek to the San Jacinto River, affecting everyone above and in between the project and the river.I don't think the creeks in that area have been dredged lately -- if that would make much difference anyway during a Flood, with less forest to soak up the rain in that area. Again, they could say the answer is Retention Ponds to hold some water during a Flood. But if the Retention Pond(s) are built too big, then the project starts to become economically unfeasible to the Developer ... which obviously can't use big, space-consuming Retention Ponds for commercial use.Just my .02. 4951

@LuvingLifeinKW:  Completely agree with your take on the flooding issues.  Also, does Martin's comment about creating empty retail space ("We do not need to create vacancies in retail space across the street from Kings Crossing....") mean that the current Randalls would be moving across the street to the new retail center?

I love shopping at HEB and they could expand to Kings Crossing.  Not at the cost of flooding though. 4951
