Holy cow - just had parent/teacher night at school and I'm so confused as to the homework, what is due when, what we need to sign, tests to keep track of (at least two tests a week), teacher website, email lists, yadda yadda.

I'm now feeling the "there are not enough hours" syndrome, and we're only one week in.

*sigh* 4951

yea public school second grade did me and my kid in....lol When I started homeschooling I was shocked how little time it took to keep her on level. Maybe 2 hours a day. The rest of time was spent with groups and out of the home activities.  4951

@Burnsway: I just don't have the patience to teach, on top of my full-time job. Even teh teacher admitted tonight that it is a very aggressive curriculum - to help my son stay on top of the math, at least, I'm trying to figure out my (new) evening schedule now where he can concentrate and we can work together. 4951

Wait until 6th grade.  My poor girl put in a 7 hour day at school, one hour in the car, one hour at dance, and THREE hours of homework!  I am going to have to eliminate her chore load during the week.  4951

They expect so much of students these days. Everything my daughter has done since she started high school (she's a senior) has been the stuff I did in college. 4951

This is why we homeschool. I know that everyone can't but I don't see the use in them doing 2 hours of homework when we can do 3-4 hours of work for the entire day and be done with it. Plus we get to travel and make our own schedule.  4951

When I was in school it was me, not my parents, concerned with all the details of school.Don't manage your children's school.  Teach them to manage it themselves. 4951

@fcabanski: My daughter is very good at managing her time and getting all of her school work done, but she's in high school. I think with the demands in elementary school that students face now, the parents have to be there to help their kids manage the workload. Kids cannot handle the responsibility on their own at seven and eight years old.
