How do you clean yours? I'm thinking of getting one and I hear you are not supposed to wash them.

Thanks 4951

Dont use soap. Hot water is usually sufficient once they are seasoned well. I also will use the plastic scouring things. It will stick like a ***** when you first get it but use it constantly and it will become your favorite.

I also dry mine by putting it wet on the burner and turning flame on. You have to dry them otherwise it will rust. I then spray with cooking oil. I have one that is over 60 years old that if I still cooked, I would use it every night.

Every few years we would put the whole pan, empty on a camp fire just to burn off extra stuff. 4951

Some people say you should never wash them, but just wipe them with a damp cloth and promptly dry.  I don't go with that idea.  Once cast iron pans/skillets are well-seasoned, we wash them in the sink as normal pans.  You just don't want to let them soak in water or run then through the dishwasher. With a new pan, clean it good, then coat the entire thing liberally with vegetable oil, then put in a hot oven to begin seasoning.  Google for the best temperature and time.  After use, we clean in the sink, dry it and repeat the seasoning process.  Once it is well-seasoned, we wash it, dry it good, and rub a little vegetable oil on the inside. 4951

All of these are good advice.  The common thing is to dry it good.  We wipe it dry, then also put it on the stove.  Use a low-medium heat and just heat until dry.  You don't want to make it smoke! We got a couple of well-seasoned deep skillets and a dutch oven from my parents.  They are our favorite cookware. 4951

Depending on what I cook in it, I'll either lightly wash it or wipe it out well and then scrub with salt.  After that I put the skillet on the stove, heat it up hot (to dry it as well), remove from heat and apply a light layer of vegetable oil and put it in the oven to cool down and soak in. 4951

@bubbleyes72  if you go to antique or thrift shops you can stumble upon them. I am lucky to have quite a few that I inherited from my Mom. I don't use soap on them EVER. If you find one that is rusted at a shop you can bring it back to it's former glory.   4951

Let it cool down, then just wipe it out.If something sticks bad, it becomes part of the seasoning. 4951
