I bought some this morning at Kroger. They are so sweet and yummy.
Anybody else give there kids grapes while shopping? I kind of felt bad but it was nice to keep her distracted. 4951

I have never given her food but she will get a sample if we are in the store.  I did once let her put on a pair of shoes we were buying.  Also a couple weeks ago we were in the dollar store and for some reason she forgot to put socks on with her sneakers and her feet were bothering her.  She asked if she could get a pair of socks.  She put them on and I brought an extra pair to the register along with the tags from the pair she had on.  The cashier looked at me a but funny when I handed her the tag but then laughed and said thank you for not just walking out with them without paying.

I have seen people buy food at the deli section, eat it in the store then leave the wrappers on a shelf.  That is stealing.  A few grapes won't kill anyones pocket. IMO 4951

How do you pay for something that is sold by weight after you eat it? 4951

I've done it before.

As for paying for it because it's based on weight...my daughter isn't going to eat more than a couple ounces of grapes while we're in the store. So we MIGHT get $.25 worth of grapes for free. I don't feel bad about it. The store is making plenty of money from me. 4951

@msuz: agree AND they haven't been washed. Not a germ phobe BUT I have seen how produce gets handled before it hits the shelves- yeah no thanks- no produce gets eaten before it gets washed including bagged salad.

@taramay: So at what level do you consider it stealing?

@Stealth83:
If she ate a pound of grapes. Also...have none of you ever seen other people "testing" the fruit?!?! People do it all the time.

So yeah, this one time my kid was screaming her face off when she was 18 months old because she saw me pick up a bag of grapes and she wanted them. So I gave her about 5 grapes. I'M A THIEF!! Emoticon

As far as having not washed the fruit first...yeah it wasn't my proudest moment. But I'm pretty sure the handle of the cart is much more disgusting than the organic grapes.

@Stealth83: good point. And if everyone coming into the store ate .25 of product- at the end of the day- how much has the store lost? I used to work in retail- trust me -EVERY penny lost get made up by even higher prices passed onto the shopper- every single penny. And it sends the wrong message to kids. I've seen kids grabbing food out of the bulk bins -without any intention of paying for it, and happily munch away while their parents are standing there.
I was the mean parent- nothing gets opened and eaten till we get home.

There are far greater issue than giving my child a few grapes out of the bag we were buying.

Pretty sure if I told the cashier to add back in the weight of 5 grapes...Because my daughter ate them, they'd look at me like I was crazy. 4951

If you're looking for a deep conversation about this...I'm sorry but I don't have the time. I'm trying to get the dishes done while the wee one is playing on her own.

This thread was about grapes.

Maybe I'll go steal some tomorrow with my daughter. Emoticon 4951

I don't let my baby eat the fruit until we go home and wash it .. too many germs and pesticides. I do however, let her eat anything else her heart desires while shopping Emoticon 4951

So people are okay with stealing because it isn't a lot AND okay with giving their child something because he/she is throwing a fit for it?  Wow, that just about sums up what is wrong with society today. 4951
