We found these old giants on a kayak exploration/fishing paddle around the East fork.

Most impressive; you have to wonder if these were a few strays or if they dominated prior to people cutting them down. 4951

There were many broken off large cypress stumps just under the water surface.  If you bike down to lake Isabella in Lake Houston Park you will find similar old cypress.

We went to Lake Isabella a few weeks ago! It was Beautiful and we took some pictures. We had the whole park to ourselves for 4 solid hours. I would love to know where this East Fork place is??!!! Nice. 4951

@kingwooddiscgolf:  Nice picture! There was an old dead tree across from the cottage outside Fredericksburg last week.  The shape was kind of interesting.Trees don't get very tall in the Hill Country except when they are near a water source.Driving through Bastrop was sad.  Seeing so many burned trees from the drought.... and the ones along Hwy 71 are only a few of the total burned ones. 4951

@cgm10sne1: If you take a look at a map of Kingwood, you'll see where Willow Terrace makes sort of a loop with High Valley Drive generally south off Kingwood Drive on sort of a peninsula.  At the tip of the peninsula you can see the San Jac splitting with bulk of the water headed south to the damn at Eisenhower Park.  Everything to the north and east...over to Luce Bayou...up to Caney Creek...that's all the East Fork of the San Jac.
North of East End Park in one of the turns headed toward Caney Creek there are three really big old cypress stumps right out in the middle of the river.  You can see them on google map satellite view.  During the drought they were out of the water 6-8'.   4951

@KingwoodDotCom: So just talking about the highlighted area, the branch off to the right is Luce Bayou.  The rest is considered the East Fork.

Green section is the wilderness park.  The little lake in the green area is Lake Isabelle.  At the southern tip of the park (green area) is the merging of the East Fork (east side of the park) and on the west the confluence of Caney and Peach creeks.  The photo was taken right at the tip of the park in those swampy channels and islands.
