With the reports of the violence in St Louis this weekend and now the possibility of even more tonight it makes me wonder first why then when. Why do people think stealing from others and destroying others property is an acceptable response to anything. When does it become time to do it?Would you?Why or under what conditions?

@Stealth83: what are they rioting about?

NO I would never do it! That's not civil disobedience, that's taking advantage of the situation. I think CD involves going against the government & not your neighbor or community. 4951

Civil disobedience is peaceful controlled protest. That mess in St. Louis has nothing to do with civil disobedience. Once you cross the line into rioting, looting, property destruction and assault, it becomes something else altogether that makes it no better than the wrong you are protesting. 4951

@thegoodwife: typical. As if unarmed = not a threat. SMH

Look at the riot videos.  Notice a trend?  The cops shoot a guy and the community steals hair weaves.  Seriously?  The manner in which the community is acting shows no concern or respect for the deceased.  It is just an opportunity, an excuse to pillage, burn and destroy the very community they live it.  Disgusting!  And I feel sure that somehow the taxpayers will end up footing the bill. 4951

The line is crossed when you put others in danger and destroy property not belonging to you. 4951

Cameras on police result in big drops in use of force by police, and drops in the numbers of complaints against police. Suspects behave themselves better when they know they are on camera, keeping cops safer.  Minorities would feel safer, and there would be less resentment if people can see if/when police are acting legitimately.  And bad cops would get weeded out faster. It's a win for everyone.http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/nov/04/california-police-body-cameras-cuts-violence-complaints-rialto 4951

@Stealth83: looting and property destruction has nothing to do with civil disobedience. that's an excuse to rationalize mob mentality and violence. what civil disobedience IS is sitting down on the bus to challenge thelaw against it or sitting down to block access to buildings etc. it isn't setting the fricking building on fire
