My Mother in Law is coming to town for the weekend, and I need suggestions on stuff to do. She is an outdoor person, but she lives in Oregon, so the heat and humidity might be too much at times. She is one who prefers to support local businesses. She has visited the Spring/Woodlands area when DH lived there, but she's never been to KW. She is coming back in January and has already signed up for the half-marathon in this area.

I have school aged children and a baby, so I'm looking for family friendly activities. Oh, and if you can recommend a sushi restaurant (with hibachi, maybe) that is centrally located in Houston, we will be meeting one of her friends for lunch. She will also want to do a little geocaching while here.

THANKS! 4951

Kublah Khan on 1960 (in front of Walmart) for sushi.

Asian City in front of Dewrbrook mall also has good sushi and habachi.

Moody Gardens would have something for everyone, both indoor and outdoor.

Space Center Houston
Old Town Spring
The Aquarium Downtown
Kemah Boardwalk

You could also spend an afternoon at Kings Harbour, have lunch on the patio, let the kids play in the splash pad, stop for yogurt then hit a movie.

@donnatella: Kemah Boardwalk and Space Center are excellent ideas! That reminds me of another good sushi/hibachi place in Clear Lake called Samurai. I haven't been there in a few years. 4951

If she is a runner she may enjoy heading up to Lake Houston Wilderness Park to get out on the trails/gravel roads up there.  A nice run can be had by heading south on the trails to Isabell Lake, then returning via the gravel road. Also, Jesse Jones Park has some nice, albeit paved, trails through it, as well as the Spring Creek Greenway trail that runs west from the park and, roughly, follows Spring Creek.  It currently ends at Dennis Johnston Park in Spring, just shy of reaching I-45. 4951

everything Donnatella said I 2nd that , especially Moody Gardens & Kemah , be sure to take her to the seaside , not to see the sea but to ride up & down the streets to see all the trees that have been cut into different shapes & figures after IKE went thru. We took the bus tour & it was amazing to see all the "critters" that had been craved out of the trees that were damaged . One house even had "The wizard of Oz & the tin man " carved out of 2 trees that had been damaged. There are dragons & lions & lot's more to see if you take the tour bus. Really amazing stuff to see. 4951
