I think she makes a lot of sense.  She tries her best to empower women to be financially responsible, to stand up, be equipped and ready to be able to stand alone if they have to.

She has a few annoying quirks, and can be too much at times, with her catch phrases, but she makes good sense, has an overall good messge and means well.  Unfortunately, some people can't look past her lifestyle, if they don't agree with it, and in the process, miss out on a lot of great information.  4951

She's a little full of herself, but she has a point.  If you haven't asked yourself that question, you should. 4951

My wife knew nothing about managing money or even balancing a checkbook when we married.  I worked with her over the years to improve that.  I think all women should know how to manage money and deal with repairmen and contractors.I took a pension that will continue to pay my wife the same amount if I die.  My 401k should last us until we both are gone as long as we don't spend lavishly.I have worked with my wife to insure she can survive without me.  Her parents got married when her mother was 14.  Her dad did all of the driving, paid all of the bills, and even did the grocery shopping.  When he left his wife for another woman, my wife's mother didn't know how to drive or write a check, much less manage money.  I didn't want that to happen to my wife.  I now KNOW that she can take care of herself! 4951

I like Suze. I think she helps people who might not otherwise know how to really manage their money. She has a down to earth way about her. I like her "Can I Afford It" segment. Girlfriend. Emoticon 4951

I was watching Suze Oreman  and she asked if  your spouse left you or passed away, could you pay the bills. I wonder how many actually think about that. What do you think of Suze Oreman?

@sapphire: Not a huge fan of hers....  I MUCH prefer Dave Ramsey.Although everyone should ask themselves that question and have LIFE INS

@Retired_Engineer: I cannot imagine a woman not knowing how to manage money and how to deal with contractors in todays world.

@sapphire: I would certainly hope so, but I've met a few women that still had that "let the man do it" attitude.I don't know if they knew how but were playing dumb, or really did not know how.   I think that EVERY woman should know how to manage money and deal with contractors, just as EVERY man should know how to cook and clean house, including run the dishwasher, washing machine, and dryer.  I personally love to cook, but I sometimes play dumb on the machines!  Emoticon

I'd be interested to see the debt to income ratio of families in this area.  I heard on the radio this morning that since consumer confidence is up so is the amount of rolling debt people are carrying.  Credit cards are bad news if you don't know how to use them.  If you can't pay them off monthly you really can't afford what you are buying and shouldn't have them in my opinion.  4951

@Retired_Engineer: Awesome !!!   When I first got married I wanted to stay home and my husband insisted I work, he said I needed to know how to take care of myself....  I'm glad he did that in hindsight....

@thetarget9:  we had neighbors that were regularly driving new fancy cars and getting deliveries from upscale stores. I used to wonder how they could afford it.  I was talking to one of them and found out they were buying everything on credit.  They were up to their eyeballs in debt!

@Retired_Engineer: I think that is more common than spoken about.  When I was in college I accrued a bunch of credit card debt and it took quite a while to pay off.  Thankfully the only payments we have have is our mortgage and necessities like insurance and stuff like that.  We used a credit card for all our shoppng because we get 6% back monthly and we have it set to pay off every month so we get no interest charges.  That is the only way we use credit cards.  We don't get in over our heads to impress others or make ourselves feel good, doing so is a sure recipe for foreclosure & bankruptcy. 4951

@thetarget9:  We paid off our house last year. I use a credit card because I don't like debit cards, but we pay it off each month.  Other than that, we are debt free!I don't just pay the statement amount on our CC, I pay off the total amount accrued up to the day I pay the bill.

All in all she provides solid advice IMO.  I think the problem that we have is that many people are not getting elementary personal finance education, why this is not part of the curriculum in schools I will never know.  I echo the comments other posters are making about credit cards,  I pay for everything with them to get the miles and points, then pay off every month.  If you can't afford to pay off each credit card each month (except for a legitimate emergency) then you are living beyond your means, or have lived beyond your means in the past. 4951
