Those of you that have gone to college recently or have kids in college, how do you get their books?  For five classes this fall, her books will total over $400 without tax at the school book store.  Trying to find a less expensive option. 4951

Check half.com we bought some of our school books off there. Just type in whatever it is you're looking for and it will give you several diff sellers and diff conditions the book is in. Also maybe let us on here know what you're looking for, maybe someone has what you're needing 4951

@Nurse3: there are several web sites where you can rent books and sometimes that is cheaper. Can buy used ones online just be careful as a lot of times the cheap book online is the international version and can be different from the book at the book store. Sometimes that is cheaper option. Also, there are places you can pay to access the books online only for that semester you need it. Then you dont have to lug a book around. Also can access it anywhere you can get on internet. That could also be a negative as no internet,no book.

Rented both kids' books through Chegg.com. They even bought back some previously purchased books. If you are renting books with labs, some labs books aren't included but can be purchased separately or from Lone Star. 4951

Back in the 70s, it wasn't unusual to pay $50 and up for engineering text books.  There were a handful that I planned to keep as reference books, so I bought new ones.I was astounded at what my kids had to pay for books.  They either bought from a local bookstore or from Amazon.  Some schools work with Amazon to sell new and used books. 4951

I always rent my textbooks from amazon. Pretty cheap, you just send it back after the semester is over. 4951

@Nurse3: I rented all  the books that I could. Some were only available for purchase due to them being new editions, or all the rental ones were taken.  It pays to go early if you want to rent.  If you buy them, there is no guarantee that you can sell them back. Some of mine weren't being accepted back because they already had their limit.  She can also buy the online version for much less than the hardback.  This is a good option because when you are doing an assignment, you can search by keyword for information.
